Balcony Railing Installation Process: What Homeowners Can Expect

t311-13

t311-13

The balcony railing installation process starts with an inquiry and photos, followed by an on-site measurement and a written drawing for your approval. The railing is then manufactured to measure in our Tel Aviv workshop, finished, and installed on your balcony. Knowing each stage helps you plan the timing and avoid surprises.

Step 1: Inquiry and Photos

Every project begins with a simple inquiry. Send us photos of your balcony, the wall or slab where the railing will be fixed, and a rough description of what you have in mind. Tell us whether you prefer iron, aluminum, stainless steel or glass infill, and whether the railing is for a private apartment, a building committee or a renovation.

Photos help us understand the site before we visit, so the first conversation is more focused and efficient.

Step 2: On-Site Measurement

A technician visits your balcony to take accurate measurements. We check the length of each section, the height, the corners, the type of base or wall, and any obstacles such as air conditioner units, drainage or tiles that affect the fixing.

  • Exact lengths and heights of every section
  • Fixing method suited to the wall or slab
  • Existing conditions that may need attention

Accurate measurement is the foundation of a railing that fits without gaps or forced adjustments.

Step 3: Drawing and Written Specification

After the measurement we prepare a drawing and a written specification. The document shows the design, the materials, the infill pattern, the fixing points and the finish. Nothing goes into production until you have reviewed and approved it.

Take your time with this step. Ask questions about the design, the appearance from the street and the way the railing will open or connect to the existing structure.

Step 4: Production in the Factory

Once the drawing is approved, the railing is manufactured in our workshop at 37 Rival Street in Tel Aviv. Because we work to measure, each section is cut, welded and assembled according to your specific dimensions rather than standard sizes.

Working in the factory allows careful control of the welds and alignment, which makes the final installation smoother and more consistent.

Step 5: Finishing

Finishing protects the railing against weather, especially on a balcony exposed to sun, rain and salty air. Depending on the material and your choice, the railing may be hot-dip galvanized, powder coated, or left as stainless steel or aluminum with a suitable surface treatment.

  • Hot-dip galvanizing for steel durability
  • Powder coating in your chosen color
  • Surface preparation appropriate for aluminum and stainless steel

Step 6: Installation and Final Check

On installation day our team brings the finished sections to your balcony and fixes them to the wall or slab. We check that the railing is level, firmly anchored and aligned with the adjacent sections. Glass infill, where chosen, is fitted at this stage.

Before the crew leaves, walk the railing together with the installer and confirm that everything matches the approved drawing. For safety requirements such as height and gap spacing, the Israeli railing standard SI 1142 applies, and exact values are checked with the engineer during the project.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the balcony railing installation process take?

The timing depends on the size of the project, the material and the approval stage. Your project manager will give you a schedule once the drawing has been approved.

Do I need to be home during the measurement?

It is helpful to be present or to arrange access to the balcony so the technician can measure every section and check the fixing points.

Can I change the design after approving the drawing?

Changes are possible before production starts. Once manufacturing begins, modifications may be more difficult, so review the drawing carefully before approving it.

Who is responsible for the wall or slab condition?

We check the fixing points during measurement and tell you if the base needs attention. Any structural repair is usually handled separately, and we advise on it before installation.

Common mistakes to avoid

Approving a drawing without checking the dimensions, fixing points and infill pattern is the most common mistake. Skipping the on-site measurement to save time often leads to sections that do not fit.

Our recommendation

Ask for the drawing to show every section with its exact measurements and fixing method before you approve it. Also confirm the finish and color in writing so there are no surprises on installation day.

Summary

The balcony railing installation process moves from inquiry and measurement to drawing approval, factory production, finishing and installation. Clear steps and careful approval at each stage make the result reliable and well fitted.
