Can You Make a Custom Steel Frame for an Irregular Shape?

t478-21

t478-21

Yes. Techno Kol Uzi builds custom steel frames to measure, including irregular, angled, curved and non-rectangular shapes, working from site measurements and your drawings. The frame is cut, bent and welded in our factory at 37 Rival Street, Tel Aviv, then fitted to the opening or structure on site.

What counts as an irregular shape?

An irregular shape is any frame that is not a simple rectangle or square. This includes trapezoids, triangles, arches, rounded corners, bay-window outlines, sloped roof openings, and freeform layouts that follow an architectural curve.

Irregular does not automatically mean difficult. Most shapes can be built once the geometry is clearly defined, whether through drawn dimensions, a sketch with angles, or a template taken on site.

How the frame is designed and measured

Every irregular frame starts with accurate information. Our team visits the site to measure the opening or structure, because walls are rarely perfectly square or level, especially in older buildings.

  • Site measurements of all sides, diagonals and angles
  • Photos of the location and surrounding finishes
  • Your architectural drawing, if available

From these details we prepare a drawing and a written specification for your approval before production begins.

Materials and profiles for complex forms

Steel profiles can be selected for their strength, appearance and how easily they bend. Flat bar, square and rectangular tube, and angle profiles are common choices for irregular structures. Curved elements may require profile bending, and the minimum bend radius depends on the section.

We discuss the load, the span and the visible finish with you so the chosen profile suits both the structure and the design intent.

Fabrication and finishing in the factory

Angled cuts, bends and joints are prepared in the workshop and welded into a single rigid frame where possible. Working in the factory allows tighter control over geometry than assembling on site.

After fabrication the frame can be hot-dip galvanized for outdoor exposure and then powder coated in the colour you choose. Finishing is planned at the start so the frame arrives ready to install.

Installation and fitting on site

Irregular frames need careful fitting because small site variations can affect how the piece sits. We check the frame against the opening during installation and make any agreed adjustments on the spot.

Fixing methods depend on the wall or structure, such as anchors into concrete or fixings to an existing steel element. The method is confirmed with you before installation.

Safety and structural checks

Any structural element, railing or load-bearing frame should be reviewed by a qualified engineer. For railings we follow the Israeli railing standard SI 1142 in general terms, and exact values for height, spacing and loads are confirmed with the engineer for your project rather than assumed.

Sharing your structural requirements early helps avoid redesign later in the process.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need a drawing to start?

No. A clear set of measurements and photos is often enough to begin. If you have an architectural drawing, sharing it speeds up the design stage.

Can a curved or arched frame be made?

Yes, many curved and arched frames can be built by bending profiles in the workshop. The achievable radius depends on the profile size and type, which we confirm during design.

Is the frame measured on site before production?

Yes. We recommend on-site measurement for irregular shapes, since walls and openings often differ from the plans.

Can the frame be finished for outdoor use?

Yes. Hot-dip galvanizing followed by powder coating is a common finish for outdoor steel frames.

Common mistakes to avoid

Ordering an irregular frame from rough sketches without site measurements is the most common error, as small differences in angles and wall alignment can cause fitting problems. Leaving the finish and fixing method until the end can also delay the project.

Our recommendation

Measure every side, diagonal and angle on site, and send photos alongside your drawing. Confirm the finish and fixing method before production so the frame is delivered ready to install.

Summary

Custom steel frames can be made for irregular shapes when the geometry is measured accurately and agreed before production. Starting with site measurements and a clear specification gives the best result.
