Custom Rooftop Parking Barriers for Elevated Car Decks

t461-34

t461-34

A rooftop parking barrier controls vehicle access to an elevated car deck, and it must be designed around the deck's exposure to wind, weather and loading. Techno Kol Uzi manufactures these barriers to measure in our Tel Aviv factory, from a site survey and written specification through galvanized or powder-coated finishing to installation.

Why rooftop decks need a different barrier

A car deck on a roof is exposed to wind, rain, salt air and temperature swings that a ground-level gate rarely faces. The barrier has to resist uplift and sideways gusts, and its fixings must suit the roof structure rather than a standard ground footing.

Access control on an elevated deck also has to work with the way vehicles approach the ramp, the turning radius and the height of the deck edge. Each of these changes the arm length, the mounting method and the protective finish we recommend.

Types of barrier we build for elevated decks

We build several barrier formats depending on traffic and the space available at the entrance:

  • Boom arm barriers for single-lane entries with regular traffic
  • Heavy-duty barriers for busier decks with frequent cycles
  • Gates and sliding solutions where a boom arm would need too much clearance

Each option is sized to the opening and the operating cycle, so the chosen type matches how the deck is actually used.

How the design is made to measure

Every project starts with a site visit where we measure the opening, the approach, the surface the barrier will stand on and any nearby obstacles. We record the measurements and the client's requirements, then prepare a drawing and a written specification for approval.

Nothing goes into production until the drawing is approved. This keeps the barrier matched to the actual deck, not a generic catalogue size, and it gives the engineer and contractor a clear reference for coordination.

Materials and finishing for outdoor exposure

Steel components are typically hot-dip galvanized for long-term corrosion protection, then finished with powder coating in the colour the building requires. Stainless steel parts are used where the application calls for them, such as exposed fixings and hardware.

The right finish depends on the distance from the sea, the exposure of the roof and the desired appearance. We discuss these choices with the client before production so the finish is decided at the specification stage.

Installation and coordination with the building

Installation on a roof deck needs coordination with the structural engineer, the waterproofing contractor and the electrical installer who will connect the operator and access controls. We align our fixing details with the roof structure and the drainage layout.

Clear coordination before installation prevents on-site changes, protects the roof membrane and keeps the access system working reliably from the first day.

Safety and compliance considerations

Barriers on elevated decks should be checked for safe operation, clear signage and sensible responses to obstruction, such as reversing or stopping. Railings and edges on the deck are subject to the Israeli railing standard SI 1142, and the exact values are checked with the project engineer.

We recommend confirming all loads, clearances and safety features with the engineer of record before the specification is finalised.

Frequently asked questions

Can a barrier be built for a roof that already exists?

Often yes. We survey the existing roof structure and the deck layout, then design fixings and the barrier arm to suit what is already built. The engineer confirms that the structure can take the loads.

How do you choose between a boom arm and a gate?

It depends on the space at the entrance and how often vehicles pass. A boom arm needs clear swing space, while a gate may suit tighter approaches. We recommend the option after the on-site measurement.

What finish protects a rooftop barrier from weather?

Hot-dip galvanizing followed by powder coating is a common combination for outdoor steel. For areas exposed to salt air, we discuss the best finish during the specification stage.

How does the process start?

Send us photos and a description of the deck through WhatsApp or the contact form. We then arrange an on-site measurement, prepare a drawing and specification, and proceed to production once you approve.

Common mistakes to avoid

Choosing a barrier from a standard catalogue without measuring the actual approach and deck edge is a frequent error. Leaving the finish and fixings until after the structure is built often causes costly changes.

Our recommendation

Involve the structural engineer and the waterproofing contractor at the start, and send the barrier supplier the real site measurements before the drawing is approved. This avoids redesign on the roof.

Summary

Rooftop parking barriers need to be designed for wind, weather and the specific structure of the deck, and made to measure from an approved drawing. Techno Kol Uzi designs, manufactures and installs them from our Tel Aviv factory.
