Custom Steel Frames for Large Door and Window Openings

t482-49

t482-49

A custom steel door frame for a large opening is a fabricated steel structure built to the exact dimensions and load of that specific wall, so the door or window can be installed without sagging or distortion. It is measured on site, drawn to specification, produced in the factory and installed as one controlled unit. Exact structural values should always be confirmed with your engineer.

When a large opening needs a steel frame

Standard frames are designed for typical wall openings. When a door, sliding system or window is wider or taller than usual, the surrounding structure must carry more weight and stay straight over time. Common cases include wide entrance doors, double leaf doors, large commercial windows and openings that cut into an existing load-bearing wall.

  • Oversized entrance and garage openings
  • Wide double-leaf or sliding doors
  • Large fixed glass or window panels

Measuring the opening on site

Accurate measurement is the foundation of a good frame. Walls are rarely perfectly square or level, so our team measures width, height and depth at several points and records any out-of-plumb or out-of-square conditions. The recorded measurements become the basis for the drawing, which means the frame is made for your actual wall rather than an idealised one.

Please share photos of the opening and the wall around it when you first make contact, as they help us spot details before the visit.

Design, drawing and specification

Before production, we prepare a drawing and a written specification covering profile sections, wall anchoring points, the door or window size, the fixing method and the finish. The engineer reviews any structural element that carries loads from above. You approve the drawing before anything is cut, so you know exactly what will be delivered.

What the specification includes

  • Profile type and wall thickness
  • Anchor and fixing positions
  • Required clearances for the leaf or glass
  • Surface finish

Production in our Tel Aviv workshop

Frames are fabricated in our workshop at Rival Street 37 in Tel Aviv. Steel members are cut, welded and checked against the drawing, and squareness is verified before the frame leaves the factory. Building the frame in the workshop keeps tolerances tighter than improvising on site and reduces time spent on the building site.

Finishing for durability

Steel in large openings is exposed to weather, moisture and daily use, so finishing matters. Depending on the project, frames can be hot-dip galvanized for corrosion protection and then powder coated in the colour you choose. Coating is applied after welding and checking, so the finish is consistent and the frame is protected at every joint.

Installation and coordination with the builder

On site, the frame is set level and plumb, fixed to the structure at the marked anchor points and checked before the door or window is hung. We coordinate timing with your contractor so the frame is in place before masonry or finishing work covers the anchor points. Clear communication between the steelwork, masonry and glazing trades prevents rework.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an engineer for a large steel door frame?

In most cases where the frame carries loads from the structure above, an engineer should review the design. We work with the engineer on the drawing so the specification is confirmed before production.

Can a steel frame be made for an existing wall?

Yes. We measure the existing opening on site, account for any irregularities, and design the frame to fit the actual wall and its anchoring points.

What finish is best for a steel frame exposed outdoors?

Hot-dip galvanizing followed by powder coating is a common choice for exterior frames because it protects the steel against corrosion and gives a durable colour finish.

How do I start a project with Techno Kol Uzi?

Send us photos of the opening with the approximate dimensions. We then arrange an on-site measurement, prepare a drawing and specification, and proceed once you approve it.

Common mistakes to avoid

Ordering a frame from approximate dimensions without a site measurement, or installing before the wall and anchor points are confirmed, often leads to misfit doors and costly corrections. Measure on site and approve the drawing first.

Our recommendation

Plan the frame early, before the masonry is finished, and have the structural load and anchor points confirmed by your engineer. Early coordination is the easiest way to avoid delays.

Summary

Custom steel frames give large doors and windows a straight, strong and durable opening, built to your measured wall and finished for Israeli conditions.
