Gate Remote Programming: Pairing Remotes and Keypads on Electric Gates
t292-28

Gate remote programming means pairing each transmitter, keypad and receiver on your electric gate operator so the gate responds only to the codes you authorize. On our gates this is completed at installation, once the operator, safety sensors and travel limits are set, and any later additions follow the operator's pairing procedure.
Why remote programming starts at the planning stage
Remote programming is not a separate step you do at the end. It depends on the operator type, the receiver location and how the gate will be used, so it is planned together with the rest of the job. Before production we agree on how many remotes, keypads and access points you need, and whether the gate will be controlled from a phone or a building intercom.
Writing these needs down early avoids reworking the wiring later. A keypad mounted at the wrong height or a receiver hidden inside a metal post can reduce range, so the layout is decided during the on-site measurement.
On-site measurement and what affects signal range
During the visit we check the gate width, the swing or slide path, the position of the operator and the power supply. Metal structures, thick walls and nearby electrical equipment can weaken radio signals, so we look at where remotes will actually be used, from the car, the street and the entrance.
- Position of the receiver relative to the operator
- Distance from the gate to the most common remote position
- Mounting height and protection for the keypad
Specification and client approval
After measurement we prepare a written specification that lists the operator model, the number of remotes and keypads, the access method for each user and the safety devices. You review it and approve it before anything goes into production. This is also the moment to confirm whether you need extra remotes for family, service staff or a building committee.
Approval matters because the programming sequence and the number of pairing slots depend on these choices. Changing them after installation is possible but takes extra time.
Production and factory preparation
Our team manufactures the gate panels, frames and mounting brackets in the Tel Aviv factory at 37 Rival Street. Finishing, such as hot-dip galvanizing or powder coating, is done before installation so the metal is protected in the weather. Mounting points for the keypad and receiver are prepared during production, so the electrical work on site is cleaner and quicker.
Pairing remotes and keypads during installation
On site, the operator is powered and the travel limits are set first, then the safety sensors are tested. Only after the gate runs correctly do we pair the remotes and keypads, following the manufacturer's procedure for that operator. Each transmitter is tested from the positions you use it, so you know it works where it matters.
We recommend you keep the access codes and a list of which remote belongs to which user. Keypad codes should be chosen by you, not shared in writing with strangers.
Handover and adding remotes later
At handover we walk you through opening and closing the gate, using each remote and keypad, and the basic safety reversal test. If you later need an additional remote, the operator's learn mode is used, and we can advise on the correct procedure for your model. For changes that involve the receiver or wiring, we recommend contacting us so the work stays safe and compliant with the Israeli railing and gate standards, where exact values are always checked with the engineer.
Frequently asked questions
Can I program a new remote myself?
Often yes, on many operators the new remote is paired by pressing a learn button on the receiver and then a button on the remote. Check your operator's manual first, and contact us if you are unsure, since an incorrect setting can affect safety devices.
Why does my remote work only near the gate?
Range is reduced by metal structures, walls and the receiver's position. A better antenna placement or a receiver moved to a clearer spot can improve it.
How many remotes and keypads can one gate operator take?
This depends on the operator model and its memory. We confirm the number during the specification stage so there is enough capacity for your household or building.
Is remote programming included in installation?
Yes, pairing the initial remotes and keypads is part of the installation process. Extra devices added later are handled as a separate visit.
Common mistakes to avoid
A common mistake is pairing remotes before the travel limits and safety reversal are set, which can cause the gate to stop or reverse unexpectedly. Another is mounting the keypad or receiver where metal or weather exposure weakens signal and wears the electronics.
Our recommendation
Decide how many remotes and codes you need before installation, keep a written list of which device belongs to which user, and test every access point from the position where you will actually use it.
Summary
Gate remote programming is planned during measurement and specification, then completed after the operator and safety devices are set. Keeping a written record of your remotes and codes makes future changes simple.
