Glass Vitrine Measurement: Step-by-Step Guide

t432-0

t432-0

Glass vitrine measurement means recording the exact width, height and depth of the wall or niche where the cabinet will sit, along with any obstacles such as skirting, switches or uneven floors. Accurate measurements taken on site, followed by a written drawing approved by the client, let the factory build the vitrine or partition to fit without gaps or rework.

Why accurate measurement matters for glass display units

A glass vitrine is a precise piece of work. Glass panels are cut to size, the frame is fitted around them, and the unit must sit square against the wall. Even a small error in the opening can mean a panel that does not fit or a gap that looks unfinished.

Measuring carefully at the start saves time and cost for everyone. It also gives you confidence that the finished piece will match the room and your belongings, whether it is a display cabinet in the living room or a partition in an office.

What you need to measure

Prepare a steel tape, a notepad and, if possible, a second person to hold the other end. Record the following for each opening:

  • Width at the top, middle and bottom
  • Height at the left, centre and right
  • Depth of the niche or the space available
  • Position of skirting, sockets, switches and pipes

Measuring in more than one place reveals whether walls are out of plumb or floors are uneven.

Taking measurements on site

Measure in millimetres and write each figure with the room and wall it belongs to. Check that corners are square with a diagonal measurement: the two diagonals of a rectangular opening should match. Note whether the floor slopes, since this affects the base.

Photograph the area from several angles. Photos help our team understand how the vitrine will sit and whether there are features that are easy to miss on paper.

From sketch to written specification

Based on your measurements and photos, we prepare a drawing and a written specification. This shows overall dimensions, the arrangement of shelves or glass panels, the type of glass, the frame finish and how the unit will be fixed to the wall or floor.

Please review the drawing carefully. Check that the sizes match what you intend, that doors open freely, and that the placement works with lighting and sockets. Approve the specification in writing before production begins.

Production in our Tel Aviv factory

Once the specification is approved, the metal frames are cut, welded and assembled at our factory at Rival Street 37 in Tel Aviv. Glass is cut to the exact dimensions from the drawing. Metal parts are then finished, for example by hot-dip galvanizing or powder coating, depending on the design and location.

Each unit is checked for square and fit before it leaves the workshop, so that installation is quick and predictable.

Installation and final check

On installation day, the team confirms the opening against the drawing, sets the unit level and fixes it securely. Glass panels are seated carefully with the correct clearances, and any adjustments are made on site.

After installation, check the alignment, the opening of doors and the stability of shelves together with the installer. Small adjustments at this stage keep the finished piece looking its best for years.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be at home for the measurement?

Yes, it is best to be present or to have someone who knows the space available. Being on site lets us discuss the layout and any obstacles directly.

Should I measure before choosing the design?

Measure first, because the available space shapes what is possible. Once you know the dimensions, we can suggest suitable designs and proportions.

Can a glass vitrine be built for an uneven wall?

Yes. Uneven walls are common, and we account for them in the drawing and during installation so the unit still sits square and stable.

Why do you need photos as well as measurements?

Photos show the surroundings, angles and details such as skirting and sockets that measurements alone may not capture clearly.

Common mistakes to avoid

Measuring only once in one place and forgetting obstacles such as skirting, switches or pipes. Always take several readings and note everything that could affect the fit.

Our recommendation

Measure each opening at least three times in width and height, and take a diagonal check. Send us these figures together with clear photos so the drawing reflects the real conditions of your space.

Summary

Careful on-site measurement, a clear approved drawing and factory production together give a glass vitrine that fits precisely and installs smoothly.
