How to Order a Custom Steel Frame for a Shade Structure
t478-11

To order a custom steel shade structure, send Techno Kol Uzi photos and a rough description of the area, then arrange an on-site measurement. The factory prepares a drawing and written specification for your approval, after which the frame is produced in the workshop, finished and installed.
Start with a clear inquiry
The first step is a short inquiry to the factory with photos of the location and a few basic facts. Tell us what the shade structure should cover, such as a courtyard, pool deck, parking area or building entrance, and whether it will stand freely or attach to an existing wall or roof.
Useful details to include:
- Approximate length and width of the area
- Whether the ground is paved, soil or a rooftop
- Preferred finish or color, if known
A clear inquiry saves time later in the process.
On-site measurement
After reviewing your inquiry, our team visits the site to take exact measurements. Dimensions, levels, attachment points and access routes are recorded on the spot. Small details such as slope, nearby walls and the height of surrounding trees or lighting fixtures can affect the design, so they are noted carefully.
Measuring on site is what allows the frame to fit correctly the first time, so it is an important part of the process rather than a formality.
Drawing and written specification
Once measurements are complete, we prepare a drawing of the structure and a written specification. The document describes the steel profiles, the connection method, the anchoring to the ground or structure, the finish and the scope of work.
- Drawing showing the layout and main dimensions
- Specification listing materials and finishes
- Notes on installation requirements
Review these documents carefully, since they become the basis for production.
Client approval
The drawing and specification are sent to you for approval. Please check the dimensions, the position of supports and the finish against what you need. If something should change, such as the height of the frame or the placement of a post, tell us before approval so the drawing can be updated.
Once you approve in writing, the order moves to production. Changes after production starts are harder and more costly to make, so this stage matters.
Production and finishing in the factory
Your frame is manufactured in our workshop at Rival Street 37 in Tel Aviv, where we have worked in iron, aluminum, glass and stainless steel since 1945. Steel members are cut, welded and assembled to the approved drawing.
Finishing is then applied to protect the steel from the weather. Depending on the specification, this may include hot-dip galvanizing followed by powder coating, which is well suited to outdoor use in Israel's climate.
Installation and handover
The completed frame is delivered and installed at your site, with anchoring carried out according to the approved specification. Before handover, the structure is checked for alignment, secure fixing and a clean finish.
For structures that carry loads or require engineering confirmation, exact values are checked with the engineer, and we recommend keeping the approved drawing for your records and for any future maintenance.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need photos before sending an inquiry?
Photos are very helpful, though not strictly required. Pictures of the area from a few angles let us understand the space before the site visit.
Can the shade structure be attached to an existing building?
Yes, in many cases. During the site visit we check the existing wall or roof and recommend the attachment method that suits it.
Who checks structural loads and safety values?
Exact load and safety values are checked with the engineer for each project. We will advise you when this confirmation is needed.
What finish is best for an outdoor shade structure?
Hot-dip galvanizing combined with powder coating is a common choice for outdoor steel. We can recommend the most suitable finish for your location and use.
Common mistakes to avoid
Ordering without a site measurement or approving a drawing without checking the dimensions are the most common errors. Both can lead to a frame that does not fit the space or the intended use.
Our recommendation
Measure the area carefully and mark the desired shade position on site before the factory visit, and review the drawing line by line before approving it. This simple preparation avoids most adjustments later.
Summary
Ordering a custom steel shade structure follows a clear path: inquiry with photos, on-site measurement, drawing and specification, your approval, factory production and finishing, then installation.
