Preparing the Site Before Steel-Look Window Installation
t446-33

Good site preparation means the opening is measured accurately, the wall and surroundings are clear and sound, and the sequence of work is agreed before production starts. Steel-look profile windows are made to measure, so the survey and drawing stage decides how smoothly installation goes.
Start With an Accurate Site Survey
Before anything is ordered, the opening needs to be measured on site. Our team visits, checks the width and height at several points, and notes whether the reveal is square, plumb and level. Small differences between the top, middle and bottom of an opening are common in older buildings, and the frame must be made to the real dimensions rather than the plan.
Photos of the opening from inside and outside, together with the existing wall finish, help us plan the frame and the fixing method before production begins.
Clear the Area and Protect the Surroundings
Installers need safe, open access. Before the work day, please:
- Remove furniture, curtains and blinds near the opening.
- Move plants, outdoor items and balcony furniture out of the way.
- Cover floors and nearby surfaces with protective sheets.
If the window faces a balcony or a shared area, let neighbours and your building committee know the planned dates.
Check the Wall, Lintel and Sill
The opening itself should be sound. Look for cracks, crumbling plaster, damp patches or loose tiles around the frame area. These need repair before the window is fixed, otherwise the new frame will sit on weak material. Let us know about any signs of water entry so we can plan the sealing properly.
Confirm that the sill and lintel are accessible and that any old frame has been removed or is ready for removal.
Plan Utilities, Electrics and Shutters
Before installation, check for cables, pipes or electrical boxes that may sit inside the reveal. If you have roller shutters or external blinds, tell us in advance so the box and guides are coordinated with the frame. Any changes to these elements are best made before the window is fixed in place, since moving them later is more disruptive.
Agree on the Drawing and Specification
After the survey we prepare a drawing and a written specification showing the frame size, the profile finish and the opening style. Please read it carefully and check the dimensions, the direction of opening and any door elements. Once you approve it in writing, production starts at our Tel Aviv workshop, where the steel-look profiles are cut, assembled and finished before delivery.
Coordinate the Installation Day
On installation day, the opening should be clear and the old frame, if any, already removed. Our installers fix the frame, check it is level and plumb, seal the gaps and test the opening and locking. For a smooth day, keep a contact person available, arrange power access if needed and plan for any finishing work such as plastering or painting after the frame is set.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to remove the old window before the survey?
No, the survey can be done with the old window in place. Removal is usually planned for installation day, once the new frame has been approved and is ready to fit.
Who repairs cracks around the opening?
Repairs to the wall are normally handled by you or your contractor before installation. Tell us what you see during the survey so we can advise on what needs attention.
Can the window be installed while people are living in the flat?
Yes, in most cases. Clearing the area around the opening and agreeing on timing in advance makes it easier for everyone.
How do I know the measurements are correct?
We measure on site at several points and send you a written drawing and specification. Please check the dimensions and approve them before production begins.
Common mistakes to avoid
Ordering from old plans without a fresh survey, and leaving furniture or electrical boxes in the way on installation day, are the most common causes of delay. Ignoring small cracks or damp around the opening can also lead to problems later.
Our recommendation
Ask for a site survey with photos and a written drawing before any production starts, and fix any wall damage before the frame goes in. A short walk-through with your installer the day before makes the installation day far more efficient.
Summary
Proper site preparation covers an accurate survey, a clear and protected area, a sound opening and an approved drawing before production. Good planning makes steel-look window installation faster and more reliable.
