Replacement Stair Railing Sections Matched to Your Design

t330-22

t330-22

Replacement stair railing sections can be made to match an existing design when the profile, dimensions, infill pattern and finish are measured accurately on site and documented in a written specification. Sending clear photos and a sample piece of the old railing speeds up the matching process considerably.

Why Matching Existing Railing Sections Is Harder Than It Looks

Over the years, railings get modified, repainted, or installed in batches that differ slightly from one another. A section that looks identical from a distance can differ in bar thickness, spacing, or the way the top rail meets the post. Even a small mismatch becomes obvious once a new piece sits next to an old one.

That is why matching starts with understanding what you already have, not with guessing from a photo alone. A careful survey of the existing railing is the foundation of a reliable replacement.

What We Measure On Site

When we visit, we record the key details that define the railing so the new sections fit and look right. These typically include:

  • Overall section length and height
  • Top rail and bottom rail profile dimensions
  • Vertical bar or infill diameter and spacing
  • Post and fixing points, including how sections connect
  • Any decorative elements such as scrolls or caps

We also check the stair angle and how the railing transitions at landings, since these affect the geometry of every section.

Matching Profile, Infill and Finish

Once the dimensions are recorded, we focus on the visual match. The profile of the top rail, the pattern of the infill, and the finish all need to agree with the original. Where the original finish has aged, we discuss how to achieve a consistent appearance, whether through the same coating system or a fresh treatment applied across the full run.

Photos taken in daylight from several angles help us confirm colour and detail, and we can review them with you before production begins.

The Written Specification and Your Approval

Before anything is made, you receive a drawing and a written specification describing each replacement section, its dimensions, materials and finish. This gives you a clear picture of what will be produced and lets you catch any differences early.

Nothing goes into production until you have approved the specification. If something on the drawing does not match what you expect, we revise it together rather than discovering the problem after installation.

Production and Finishing in the Factory

Sections are manufactured in our workshop at 37 Rival Street in Tel Aviv, where we cut, shape and weld to the approved drawing. Finishing options such as hot-dip galvanizing or powder coating are chosen to suit the environment and the look you need, and they are applied consistently so new parts blend with the existing run.

Because the work is done to measure in one workshop, we can keep the dimensions and finish tightly controlled from the first section to the last.

Installation and Checking the Fit

On installation day, we check each replacement section against the neighbouring original pieces, confirm alignment along the handrail line, and make sure fixings are secure. Railing safety is important, and we verify the work against the Israeli railing standard SI 1142 in general terms, with exact values checked together with your engineer where needed.

We finish by walking the full length of the stair with you so any adjustment can be made on the spot.

Frequently asked questions

Can you match a railing if I no longer have the original drawings?

Yes. We measure and photograph the existing railing on site and build the specification from those measurements, so original drawings are not required.

Do I need to send a sample piece of the old railing?

A sample is helpful but not essential. Clear photos, close-up detail shots and accurate measurements are often enough for us to match the profile and infill.

Will the new sections look exactly like the old ones after years of weathering?

We aim for a close visual match, and we discuss finish options so the new and existing parts look consistent. Slight differences from ageing can remain, so we review them with you before production.

Can the replacement sections be made in a different finish from the original?

Yes, that is possible, but if you want the whole stair to look uniform we recommend treating the full run in the same finish, which we can advise on during the survey.

Common mistakes to avoid

The most common error is measuring only one section and assuming the rest are identical. Always check several points along the stair, because small variations are common.

Our recommendation

Take clear photos of the railing from the top and bottom of the stair, and measure the bar spacing at two or three locations before ordering. This information makes accurate matching far more reliable.

Summary

Replacement stair railing sections can be matched accurately through careful on-site measurement, a written specification you approve, and consistent factory finishing.
