Stair Railing Installation Process: What to Expect Step by Step
t325-31

A stair railing installation moves through six stages: inquiry with photos, on-site measurement, a written drawing and specification you approve, production in our Tel Aviv factory, finishing such as galvanizing or powder coating, and installation at your home. Knowing each stage helps you plan access, timing and questions so the day runs smoothly.
Step 1: Inquiry and Photos
The process starts when you contact us with photos of your staircase and a short description of what you need. Include the wall type, whether the railing will sit on steps or a wall, and any existing handrail you want to replace. Photos taken from the bottom and top of the stairs help us understand the layout before we visit.
Tell us about your style preferences as well, whether you want a classic iron look, a modern glass panel or a clean stainless steel finish. This first conversation sets the direction for everything that follows.
Step 2: On-Site Measurement
Our team visits your home to measure the staircase precisely. We check the rise and run of each step, the wall lengths, the landing positions and any obstacles such as light fixtures or door swings. Measuring on site avoids the errors that come from working only with photos.
- Length and angle of each flight
- Fixing points in the wall or steps
- Floor and wall condition
Step 3: Drawing and Specification
After measuring, we prepare a drawing and a written specification covering materials, dimensions, post positions, infill pattern and finish. You review these documents and approve or request changes. Nothing goes into production until you have signed off, so take your time and ask about anything unclear.
For railings in buildings, the Israeli railing standard SI 1142 is relevant, and we confirm the required heights and spacings with the responsible engineer where needed.
Step 4: Production in the Factory
Once approved, the parts are cut, shaped and welded in our workshop at Rival Street 37 in Tel Aviv. Working in the factory lets us control the quality of every joint and check each piece against the drawing before it leaves. Custom curves and special profiles are made here as well.
Production time depends on the complexity of the design and the current workload, and we confirm the schedule when you approve the specification.
Step 5: Finishing
Most stair railings receive a protective finish before installation. Hot-dip galvanizing protects steel against corrosion, and powder coating adds color and a durable surface. Stainless steel parts are cleaned and polished to match your chosen look.
The finish is applied after welding and before fitting, so the coating covers the whole piece. Choose the finish together with the design so the railing suits both the stairs and the rest of your home.
Step 6: Installation Day
On installation day, our crew brings the railing to your home and fixes the posts and handrail to the steps or wall. Plan for the team to need clear access to the staircase and a safe working area. Let us know ahead of time about pets, children or any furniture that should be moved.
- Clear the stairs and nearby walkways
- Confirm the fixing points with the team
- Check the finished railing together before the crew leaves
Frequently asked questions
How long does the whole stair railing installation process take?
The timeline depends on the design, the production schedule and the access to your home. We confirm the expected timing when the specification is approved and again before installation day.
Do I need to be home during measurement and installation?
Yes, it helps to be present so you can point out fixing locations and approve the layout. Someone who can make decisions on your behalf is also fine.
Can I change the design after the drawing is approved?
Changes are possible before production starts, but they may affect the schedule. Once the parts are in the workshop, changes are harder, so review the drawing carefully.
Which finish is best for an outdoor staircase?
Hot-dip galvanizing combined with powder coating is a strong choice for outdoor steel stairs. We recommend the finish based on your exposure and the look you want.
Common mistakes to avoid
Approving the specification without checking heights, spacings and fixing points carefully leads to costly changes later. Also avoid leaving the staircase cluttered on installation day, which slows the crew and can cause damage.
Our recommendation
Measure your staircase carefully and mark any objects near the handrail before the visit, and keep the approved drawing on hand during installation so you can check each stage against it.
Summary
The stair railing installation process has six clear steps, from inquiry and on-site measurement through approval, factory production, finishing and fitting at your home. Preparing for each stage makes the day efficient and the result reliable.
