Steel Frame Engineering: From Idea to Custom Structure

t489-44

t489-44

Steel frame engineering is the process of turning your site conditions, load requirements and design intent into a precise drawing and specification before any steel is cut. At Techno Kol Uzi, every custom steel frame moves through measurement, drawing, client approval, factory production and finishing before installation. This sequence keeps the structure accurate, safe and matched to your project.

Starting With Your Inquiry

Every custom steel frame begins with a conversation about what you need to build or replace. A clear inquiry saves time later, so it helps to send photos of the location, a rough sketch if you have one, and a short description of how the frame will be used.

Tell us whether the frame will support a balcony, a canopy, a pergola, a staircase or part of a larger structure. Mention any existing elements it must connect to, such as concrete slabs, walls or steel beams. This information shapes everything that follows.

On-Site Measurement

Measurements are taken on site because drawings alone rarely capture the real conditions of a building. Walls can be out of plumb, floors can slope, and openings often differ slightly from the plans.

  • Overall dimensions and clear spans
  • Connection points and their condition
  • Access routes for delivering and lifting the finished pieces
  • Nearby finishes that the frame must work around

These readings become the baseline for the drawing.

Drawing and Written Specification

Once the measurements are confirmed, we prepare a drawing that shows the frame layout, member profiles, connections and fixing details. Alongside it, a written specification describes the materials, finishes and installation method in plain terms.

Structural matters such as member sizing and load paths are checked with the responsible engineer. We do not assume loads or dimensions for you; the engineer confirms what the design requires, and our drawing reflects that.

Client Approval Before Production

The drawing and specification are sent to you for review. This is the stage to ask questions, request changes to appearance or layout, and confirm that the design fits your plans.

Production starts only after written approval. Changes made at this point are simple to implement. Changes after cutting and welding are costly and slow, so we encourage a careful review now.

Factory Production and Finishing

Approved drawings go to our workshop at Rival Street 37 in Tel Aviv, where the steel is cut, shaped and welded to the specified profiles. Working in the factory allows tighter quality control than fitting everything together on a noisy site.

Finishing protects the frame against weather and wear. Depending on the project, members may be hot-dip galvanized, powder coated or left ready for your chosen paint system. The finish is agreed in the specification so there are no surprises at delivery.

Installation and Handover

On installation day, the pieces are transported to the site and fixed according to the drawing. Our team checks alignment and connections as the frame goes up, making small adjustments where needed to match the real building.

At handover, we walk through the completed frame with you and confirm that it matches the approved specification. Keep the drawing and specification on file; they document exactly what was built.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need drawings before contacting you?

No. Photos and a description of what you want are enough to start. We prepare the measured drawing ourselves after visiting the site.

Who checks the structural design?

Structural matters are checked with the responsible engineer. We follow the engineer's requirements and do not assume loads or member sizes on your behalf.

Can the design be changed after approval?

Changes are possible before production begins, which is why approval comes first. Changes after production starts take more time and effort.

How is the frame protected against weather?

Depending on the project, we use hot-dip galvanizing or powder coating. The finish is defined in the written specification before work begins.

Common mistakes to avoid

A common mistake is ordering a frame from plans alone without confirming site measurements, which leads to misfit connections. Another is approving a design quickly and then requesting changes after production has started.

Our recommendation

Before approving your drawing, walk the site with the drawing in hand and check every connection point against the real wall or slab. Confirm the finish and access route in writing so delivery and installation go smoothly.

Summary

Custom steel frame engineering follows a clear path: inquiry, measurement, drawing, approval, factory production, finishing and installation. Each step protects accuracy, safety and the final result.
