Steel Mezzanine Fabrication for Interiors | Techno Kol Uzi
t503-42

A steel mezzanine is a raised platform built within a room, usually supported by a steel frame and finished with a floor surface chosen for the interior. Techno Kol Uzi fabricates these platforms to measure in its Tel Aviv workshop, working from the designer's drawings and an on-site measurement.
What a Steel Mezzanine Can Do in an Interior
A mezzanine adds usable floor area without changing the building footprint. Designers use it for a sleeping loft, a reading nook, a home office, a display level in a shop, or a storage deck above a kitchen or entrance.
Steel suits these platforms because the frame can be slender, leaving the space light and open. The structure can be left exposed as part of the design or concealed behind cladding, depending on the look you want.
Information We Need From the Designer
Before we can quote the work in detail, we need a clear brief. The more precise the drawing, the fewer changes later on site.
- Plan and section drawings with the ceiling height and the clear height under the platform
- Intended loads, such as people, furniture, or stored goods
- Access method: stair, ladder, or steel staircase, and its position
- Finish materials for the deck, railings, and visible steel
- Any existing columns, beams, or services that the platform must avoid
Design Choices That Affect the Build
Span and spacing between supports decide how heavy the frame must be. A long, open span may need deeper sections, so it is worth discussing the layout early instead of after the drawings are fixed.
The deck can be steel plate, timber on steel joists, or a concrete topping, each with a different weight and finish. Railings should follow the building regulations, and the exact dimensions are confirmed with the project engineer rather than assumed.
From Drawing to Installation
Our process follows the same steps for every platform. First we review the brief and photos, then we measure the space on site. We prepare a drawing and a written specification, and the designer approves them before any steel is cut.
The parts are then fabricated and finished in our factory, with galvanizing or powder coating where the environment requires it. Installation follows, with the platform fitted to the building and checked on site.
Finishes and Visible Steel
When the steel is seen, the finish is part of the design. Powder coating offers a wide range of colors and a smooth surface, while hot-dip galvanizing gives a strong, weather-resistant base for areas exposed to moisture.
Edges, welds, and connections can be ground and finished to suit a refined interior, or left with a deliberate industrial character. We discuss these choices with the designer before production starts.
Working With Architects and Designers
We work directly with architects, interior designers, and contractors, and we respect the design intent of each project. Clear drawings, a shared schedule, and early coordination with the other trades make the installation smoother.
For interiors, we can also fabricate related elements such as stairs, railings, and partitions, so the whole metal scope comes from one workshop.
Frequently asked questions
Do you build mezzanines from my own drawings?
Yes. We work from the designer's plans and sections, and we check them against the measured space before fabrication begins.
Can the steel be left visible in the final design?
Yes. Exposed steel is common in interior designs, and we can finish it with powder coating or grind and treat the welds for a clean look.
Who checks the structural design and railing heights?
The structural design and exact dimensions are confirmed with the project engineer, and we follow the applicable Israeli standards during fabrication.
Where is your workshop located?
Our factory is at 37 Rival Street in Tel Aviv, and we measure, fabricate, and install from there.
Common mistakes to avoid
Designers often fix the platform layout before confirming the clear height and loads, which later forces redesign. Leaving access and railing positions until the end can also clash with the staircase and furniture.
Our recommendation
Send the plan, section, and intended use together at the start, and ask for the access route and railing layout to be decided alongside the platform rather than after it.
Summary
A well-planned steel mezzanine gives an interior extra usable space with a light, precise structure built to the designer's drawings.
