Steel Racking and Platform Frames for Logistics Operations
t479-23

A steel racking platform frame is a custom-built steel structure that supports storage levels or a raised working platform inside a warehouse. Techno Kol Uzi designs and manufactures these frames to match your floor plan, load requirements and handling equipment, then delivers them for installation.
What a platform frame does in a logistics operation
A platform frame is a steel structure that creates an extra level above the warehouse floor, usually to store goods, to hold packing or sorting stations, or to add usable floor area without extending the building. Racking frames, by comparison, are built to hold pallets and goods on several tiers, and both types often share the same basic design principles.
In logistics, the frame has to carry constant traffic, pallet loads and sometimes forklift movement, so the design starts with how the space will actually be used rather than with a standard catalogue size.
Information we need before we design
To prepare a proper drawing, we typically ask for the following:
- Available floor area and ceiling height, measured on site
- Expected load per level, including pallets, shelving and people
- Type of goods and handling equipment such as pallet trucks or forklifts
- Access routes, doors and any existing columns or beams
- Photos of the area and a rough sketch if you have one
Exact load values and calculations are confirmed with the structural engineer before production.
From inquiry to installation
Our process follows clear steps. You send an inquiry with photos, we visit the site to measure, and we prepare a drawing and written specification. Once you approve it, production takes place in our factory on Rival Street in Tel Aviv. Finishing such as hot-dip galvanizing or powder coating is applied to protect the steel in busy warehouse conditions, and the frame is then delivered and installed.
Each step is confirmed with you in writing so that nothing changes unexpectedly on site.
Design choices that affect safety and efficiency
Good frames balance strength, access and future changes. Decisions about bay width, beam spacing, bracing and column positions influence how much weight a level can carry and how easily pallets can be placed and removed.
We also consider where handling equipment will travel and how the frame will be fixed to the floor or existing structure. Clear, practical decisions at the drawing stage prevent costly changes after installation.
Materials and finishing for warehouse conditions
Warehouses expose steel to impact, moisture and dust, so material and finish matter. Structural steel is selected for the load, and protective finishing is chosen for the environment, whether the frame sits indoors in a dry store or near loading bays where it may be more exposed.
We discuss these options during the specification stage so the finish suits how the building is actually used.
Safety and standards
Railings, guards and edge protection on raised platforms should follow the Israeli railing standard SI 1142, and the frame should be designed by a qualified engineer for the intended loads. We will indicate where these requirements apply to your project, and exact values are checked with the engineer for your specific layout.
Clear marking of load limits and regular inspection of fixings keep the frame safe over the years.
Frequently asked questions
Can you make a frame for an existing warehouse with limited ceiling height?
Yes, the frame is designed around the measured height and clearances on site. We confirm the available space before preparing any drawing.
Do you design the frame, or do I need a separate engineer?
We produce the drawing and specification, and load calculations are confirmed with a structural engineer before production. This ensures the design meets the requirements for your project.
Can the frame be extended or changed later?
Many frames are designed with modular bays, so additional sections can be added or positions adjusted. We discuss future needs at the start so the design allows for them.
Where is the work carried out?
Production takes place at our factory at 37 Rival Street, Tel Aviv, which has operated since 1945 and is run today by the third generation of the family.
Common mistakes to avoid
A common mistake is ordering a frame based only on floor area without checking the load per level and how forklifts will move around it. Leaving out these details can lead to a frame that is either unsafe or hard to use.
Our recommendation
Measure the space and write down your heaviest typical load before contacting a supplier, and include photos of the access routes. This lets the design be accurate from the first drawing and reduces changes during production.
Summary
Custom steel racking and platform frames are designed around your space, loads and handling equipment, then manufactured and finished for warehouse conditions. Starting with accurate measurements and clear load information leads to a safer and more efficient result.
