Balcony Railing Design Drawings: What We Prepare
t320-10

A balcony railing design drawing is a written and visual plan showing the exact dimensions, materials, fixing points and finish of the railing before production begins. At Techno Kol Uzi we prepare it after measuring on site, and we only start fabrication once the client has approved it in writing.
Starting with the on-site measurement
Every drawing begins at the balcony itself. Photos and a phone sketch are a useful start, but they rarely capture slopes, uneven concrete edges or wall thickness. We visit the site and measure the railing span, the height from the floor, the depth of the slab edge and the type of surface where the posts or brackets will be fixed.
We also note the direction the balcony faces, nearby openings and any existing elements such as tiles, cladding or lighting that the railing must work around.
What the drawing shows
The drawing is designed so that anyone reading it, including the client, the building committee or the contractor, understands exactly what will be built. It typically includes:
- Front elevation and side view with overall dimensions
- Post positions, spacing and infill pattern (bars, glass or mesh)
- Handrail profile and height
- Fixing method for the floor or wall
- Material and finish notes
The written specification
Alongside the drawing we prepare a short written specification. It lists the profiles, thicknesses, glass type where relevant, the finish (for example hot-dip galvanizing followed by powder coating) and the installation steps. This document is what keeps the approved plan and the finished product matching.
For safety-related heights and loads we refer to the relevant Israeli railing standard, SI 1142, and confirm exact values with the engineer on the project.
Client review and approval
Before any cutting or welding starts, the drawing and specification are sent to the client. We ask you to check the dimensions against your own notes, confirm the railing style and sign off in writing. If the building committee or an architect is involved, we can send the drawing to them as well.
Changes at this stage are simple and quick. Once production begins, changes become far more costly, which is why approval comes first.
Production in our Tel Aviv workshop
After approval, the railing is manufactured in our factory at 37 Rival Street, Tel Aviv, following the drawing exactly. Parts are cut, welded and checked against the plan. Finishing, including hot-dip galvanizing and powder coating where specified, is carried out before delivery so the railing arrives ready to fix.
Installation and final check
Our team installs the railing at the balcony, fixing it according to the approved method. Once in place we compare the result with the drawing, check height, alignment and fixings, and make sure the railing feels solid to hold. Keeping the drawing on file also helps with any future repair or matching extension.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a balcony railing design drawing before ordering?
Yes, a drawing is strongly recommended so both sides agree on dimensions and design before production. It also helps committees and contractors review the work before it is fabricated.
Who takes the measurements for the drawing?
Our team measures on site so the drawing reflects the real conditions of your balcony, not just photos. This avoids surprises at the installation stage.
Can I change the design after seeing the drawing?
Yes, changes are welcome at the approval stage. We update the drawing and specification until you are satisfied, and production only starts after your written sign-off.
Does the drawing include safety requirements?
The drawing covers heights, spacing and fixings in line with the relevant standard, and we confirm exact values with the engineer for your project.
Common mistakes to avoid
Ordering from rough photos or sketches without a site measurement often leads to wrong dimensions and rework. Approving a verbal design instead of a written drawing can cause disagreements about the final result.
Our recommendation
Measure the balcony yourself first, note any obstacles, and ask for the drawing and specification in writing before you approve anything. Check the post positions and railing height against your own expectations before signing.
Summary
A proper balcony railing design drawing, based on an on-site measurement and a written specification, protects both the client and the fabricator. Approval before production keeps the final railing accurate and worry-free.
