Choosing Glass Panels for a Modern Glass Stair Railing

t334-13

t334-13

A glass stair railing gives a contemporary, open look while keeping the staircase safe when the glass, fixings and height are chosen correctly. The right choice depends on the glass type and thickness, the fixing system, and precise on-site measurement. Our workshop at 37 Rival Street in Tel Aviv handles each step from inquiry to installation.

Why Owners Choose Glass for Stair Railings

A glass stair railing lets light move freely through the staircase and makes a small hallway or a narrow stairwell feel wider. It works well with modern interiors, polished floors and minimalist furniture, and it avoids the visual weight of solid balusters.

Glass also needs more care in planning than metal bars. The panel thickness, the type of glass and the way it is fixed all affect safety and appearance, so it is worth deciding these points early with your project team.

Choosing the Right Glass Panels

Most glass railings use laminated safety glass, which holds together if it breaks. Tempered or laminated panels are common choices, and the exact build is selected for your structure and usage.

  • Clear or low-iron glass for the most transparent look
  • Frosted or patterned glass for privacy
  • Tinted glass for a warmer or more discreet appearance

Ask us which combination fits your staircase. We explain the options in writing before production starts.

Measuring the Staircase on Site

Accurate measurement is the foundation of a good result. Our team visits the property, checks the staircase edge, landings, wall or floor conditions and the exact positions of the posts or brackets. Stairs are rarely perfectly straight or level, so each run is measured on its own.

We record the railing height, the slope, the panel spans and any obstacles such as switches or pipes. These measurements go into a drawing and a written specification that you approve before anything is cut.

Drawing, Specification and Approval

After measurement we prepare a drawing that shows the layout, the glass panel sizes, the fixing points and the finish. The written specification lists the materials, glass build, fixing method and surface treatment, so there are no surprises later.

Please review both documents carefully. If you change the design, the glass size or the fixing position, we update the drawing and confirm the change with you before production begins.

Production and Finishing in Our Factory

Once the drawing is approved, the metal parts for the posts, handrails and brackets are cut, welded and assembled in our factory on Rival Street. Steel components are finished with hot-dip galvanizing or powder coating, depending on the design and the environment where the railing will stand.

The glass panels are prepared to the measured sizes and checked against the drawing. Each part is inspected before it leaves the workshop so the site visit goes smoothly.

Installation and Final Checks

On installation day our team fixes the posts and handrail, sets the glass panels into their channels or clamps, and checks alignment and levelness. Exact safety values such as height and load requirements are confirmed with the project engineer and follow the general guidance of the Israeli railing standard SI 1142.

After installation we walk the staircase with you, review the handrail, the fixings and the glass edges, and explain basic care so the railing stays clean and secure over time.

Frequently asked questions

What type of glass is best for a stair railing?

Laminated safety glass is the most common choice for stair railings because it stays in place if it breaks. The best build depends on your staircase and how the railing is fixed, so we recommend it after measurement.

Do I need to measure the staircase myself?

No, our team measures on site so the panels match your staircase exactly. You can send photos first, but the final measurements are taken in person.

How long does the process take from inquiry to installation?

The timeline depends on the project size, the design and the finish you choose. We confirm the schedule once the drawing and specification are approved.

Can glass railings be combined with metal handrails or posts?

Yes, many designs pair glass panels with steel posts and a handrail. We will suggest the combination that suits your look and the structure of the stairs.

Common mistakes to avoid

Choosing glass by appearance alone, or skipping on-site measurement, often leads to panels that do not fit or fixings in the wrong place. Always approve a written drawing and specification before production starts.

Our recommendation

Decide on the glass type, the fixing method and the handrail design together, not one at a time. Ask for a written specification that lists all of them before you approve the order.

Summary

A glass stair railing offers a modern, open look when the glass, fixings and measurements are planned carefully. Work from an approved drawing and specification, and let the team measure on site.

Send us photos of your staircase and we will arrange an on-s
