Stainless Steel Stair Railings: Planning the Process

t334-14

t334-14

A stainless steel stair railing is planned in a clear sequence: inquiry with photos, on-site measurement, a written drawing and specification, client approval, factory production and finishing, then installation. Following these steps in order prevents measurement errors and surprises on site. The result is a railing fitted exactly to your stair and built to resist corrosion.

Start with an inquiry and photos

The process begins with a short inquiry. Send us photos of the staircase from a few angles, including the wall or side where the railing will be fixed, and tell us roughly what you have in mind. Photos help us understand the layout, the landing, and any obstacles before we visit.

  • Photos of the full staircase and landings
  • Notes on the wall material and any existing handrail
  • Your preferred style, such as simple bars or glass infill

A clear inquiry saves time for both sides and lets us prepare the right questions for the site visit.

On-site measurement

Our team visits the property to measure the stair. We check the rise and run of each step, the height of the railing from the nosing, the wall-to-wall distances, and the condition of the surfaces where anchors will go. Measurements are taken at several points because stairs are rarely perfectly uniform.

We also note how the railing meets the top and bottom of the stair, and whether a continuous handrail or a landing post is needed. Accurate measurement at this stage is the foundation of a railing that fits without adjustment on installation day.

Drawing and written specification

After measuring, we prepare a drawing that shows the railing layout, post positions, heights and fixing points. A written specification accompanies the drawing and lists the stainless steel grade, the profile and tube dimensions, the infill type, the handrail design and the finish.

  • Layout drawing with dimensions
  • Material and grade of stainless steel
  • Fixing method and anchor type

For the height and spacing requirements of guard railings, we refer to the Israeli railing standard SI 1142 and confirm exact values with the engineer on your project.

Client approval before production

You review the drawing and specification and let us know if anything should change. This is the moment to decide on the handrail shape, the bar spacing, the finish and the way the railing meets the wall. Once you approve in writing, we move to production.

Approval before production matters because changes after cutting and welding are costly and slow the project down. Take your time here and ask questions about anything that is unclear.

Factory production and finishing

Production takes place in our factory at 37 Rival Street, Tel Aviv. Stainless steel sections are cut, shaped, welded and ground to match the approved drawing. Each component is checked against the specification before it leaves the workshop.

Finishing gives the railing its final look and protects it. Depending on the design, the surface is brushed or polished. Stainless steel resists corrosion well on its own, and careful finishing keeps the surface clean and even over the years.

Installation and final check

On installation day our crew fixes the posts, handrail and infill to the stair, using anchors suited to your wall, whether concrete, stone or tile. We check that every section is level, plumb and firmly fixed before we leave.

  • Post fixing and alignment
  • Handrail and infill fitting
  • Final check for stability and finish

After installation we walk through the railing with you so you know how it works and what to look for over time.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the whole process take?

The timeline depends on the size of the project and the current workload, so we confirm it with you after the inquiry and site visit. Each stage, from measurement to approval, is agreed with you before production starts.

Do I need to be home for the measurement?

Yes, it helps to be present or to have someone who can give access and answer questions about the stair. We can then point out details such as the wall type and fixing options directly on site.

Can I change the design after approving the drawing?

Small changes can sometimes be made before production starts, but once cutting and welding begin, changes become difficult and costly. That is why we ask you to review the drawing carefully before approving it.

Why choose stainless steel for a stair railing?

Stainless steel resists corrosion well, which makes it a practical choice for stairs exposed to humidity, weather or salty air. It also keeps a clean, modern look with relatively low maintenance.

Common mistakes to avoid

Approving a drawing without checking the handrail height, spacing and fixing points, or measuring the stair only once. Errors at these stages are the most common reason railings do not fit on installation day.

Our recommendation

Ask for the drawing and specification in writing before production, and compare the fixing method with your wall type. Confirm exact height and spacing values with your engineer rather than relying on memory.

Summary

A stainless steel stair railing is planned through inquiry, measurement, drawing, approval, production and installation, in that order. Careful planning at each step gives a railing that fits well and lasts.
