How Stair Railing Fabrication Begins in the Workshop

t334-17

t334-17

Stair railing fabrication begins with accurate on-site measurement, followed by a drawing and written specification that the client approves. Only after approval does production start in the factory, where the steel or aluminum is cut, welded, finished and then installed on site.

Starting with the Inquiry and Photos

Every project starts with a simple inquiry. Send us photos of the staircase, the wall or floor it attaches to, and any sketch or idea you already have. Photos help us understand the layout, the existing materials and the style you prefer before anyone visits the site.

It also helps to tell us how the stairs are used. A staircase in a busy family home may need a different design and fixing method than one in a quiet office building. Early information like this saves time later.

On-Site Measurement

A technician visits the site to measure the staircase directly. We check the rise and run of each step, the height of the handrail above the nosing, the wall thickness, the landing positions and any obstacles such as light fixtures or uneven walls.

  • Length and angle of each flight
  • Height and position of the handrail
  • Type of wall, floor or steps where the railing is fixed
  • Any curves, turns or landings

Measuring on site matters because drawings made from plans alone often differ from the finished building.

Drawing and Written Specification

Using the measurements, we prepare a drawing that shows the railing shape, post positions, infill pattern and fixing points. Alongside it, we write a specification describing the material, profile sizes, finish and installation method in plain language.

Exact structural values are confirmed with the engineer, and the railing is designed in line with the Israeli railing standard SI 1142. Please review the drawing carefully, because it becomes the basis for production.

Client Approval Before Production

We send the drawing and specification for your approval. This is the stage to ask questions, request a change in height or pattern, or confirm the colour and finish. Once you approve in writing, the design is locked in.

Approval protects both sides. Changes made after cutting the material usually mean rework, so it is worth taking the time to check every detail now.

Production in the Factory

In our workshop at Rival Street 37 in Tel Aviv, the approved drawing goes to the shop floor. The steel or aluminum is cut to length, bent where needed, and assembled into posts, rails and infill elements. Welding and grinding follow, and each piece is checked against the drawing before moving on.

Since 1945 this workshop has been built around careful, measured work, and that same discipline applies to every railing we make today.

Finishing and Installation

Finished parts are protected with hot-dip galvanizing or powder coating, depending on the material and location. This protects the railing against weather and everyday wear. After finishing, the railing is delivered and fixed to the staircase, checked for alignment and stability, and cleaned up before we leave.

Installation is the final step that turns the workshop work into a railing you can rely on every day.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the process take from inquiry to installation?

The timing depends on the size of the staircase, the design complexity and the current workload in the workshop. We confirm the expected schedule once the drawing is approved.

Do I need to be home during the measurement?

It helps to be present or to arrange access to the staircase, so the technician can check the details with you. If that is not possible, let us know in advance.

Can I change the design after approving the drawing?

Changes are possible before production starts, but after cutting begins they may require rework. Tell us about any concerns during the approval stage.

What finish options are available for stair railings?

We use hot-dip galvanizing and powder coating, chosen according to the material and where the railing is located. We advise you on the best option for your project.

Common mistakes to avoid

The most common mistake is approving a drawing without checking the handrail height and fixing points against the actual staircase. Skipping the measurement or rushing the approval often leads to adjustments after installation.

Our recommendation

Before approving, walk the staircase yourself with the drawing in hand and check each post position, the handrail height and the landings. Ask us to confirm any detail that is unclear.

Summary

A stair railing is built from accurate on-site measurement, an approved drawing and specification, careful workshop production, and finishing before installation. Following these steps keeps the result precise and reliable.
