Gate Installation Timeline: From Order to Operation
t287-24

A gate installation timeline usually moves through inquiry, on-site measurement, drawing approval, factory production, finishing and final installation. The custom nature of each stage means the total duration depends on the gate type, the site conditions and how quickly approvals and preparation are completed.
Stage 1: Inquiry and Initial Information
Every project starts with a clear inquiry. Send photos of the opening, the driveway, the surrounding wall or post, and any existing gate or motor you plan to keep. Note whether you want a sliding or swing gate, and roughly how wide the opening is.
- Photos from two or three angles
- Approximate opening width and ground slope
- Power source location for the motor
Complete information at this stage avoids back-and-forth later and helps set realistic expectations for the schedule.
Stage 2: On-Site Measurement and Drawing
After the inquiry, our team measures the opening on site. We check the exact clear width, the posts, the ground level and how the gate will open or travel. Measurements are taken in the presence of the client or their contractor whenever possible.
Based on these measurements, a drawing and a written specification are prepared. This document describes the materials, the gate leaf dimensions, the mechanism and the finishing. Structural details such as post sizing and foundations are confirmed with the relevant engineer.
Stage 3: Client Approval
The drawing and specification are sent for your review. Please check dimensions, opening direction, colour and the position of the motor and controls. Any change requested at this stage is quick to make.
Production begins only after written approval. This is the point that protects both sides: once approved, the dimensions are fixed, so take time to confirm every detail before signing off.
Stage 4: Factory Production
Once approved, the gate is manufactured to measure in our workshop at Rival Street 37 in Tel Aviv. Steel sections are cut, welded and assembled, and the mechanism and any electrical components are fitted and tested in the factory.
Production time depends on the gate's size, complexity and the current workload. Sliding gates with a full frame and infill usually need more workshop time than a simple swing gate, so ask for an estimated production window when you approve the drawing.
Stage 5: Finishing
Finishing protects the gate for years in the Israeli climate. Common options include hot-dip galvanizing followed by powder coating, which gives a durable, uniform colour. Finishing is usually carried out at an external treatment stage, so it adds its own time to the schedule.
Allow for this step when planning. Coordinating finishing early avoids delays, especially when a specific colour or texture is required.
Stage 6: Installation and Commissioning
On installation day, the gate is fitted to the prepared posts or foundations, aligned, and connected to the motor and controls. Electric gates are tested for smooth travel, safety reversing and remote operation before handover.
- Concrete or post preparation completed beforehand
- Power supply ready at the motor position
- Access for the installation crew and vehicle
Having the site ready on the agreed day is the single biggest factor in finishing on schedule.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the whole gate installation timeline take?
The total time varies with the gate type, the site and how quickly approvals are given. Ask for a schedule tailored to your project, with each stage listed and dated.
Can the schedule be shortened?
Yes, by providing complete information early, approving drawings promptly and preparing the site before installation. Quick decisions on colour and mechanism also help.
Do I need to prepare the posts before installation?
Often yes. Posts and foundations should be ready and properly set, and we confirm the requirements with you and your engineer during the measurement stage.
Is the timeline the same for sliding and swing gates?
Not always. Sliding gates may need more space and a longer rail or track preparation, while swing gates can be simpler, though the exact timing depends on each project.
Common mistakes to avoid
The most common delay is changing the dimensions or opening direction after approval, or leaving the site unprepared on installation day. Both can push the schedule back significantly.
Our recommendation
Agree on a written schedule with dates for each stage at the start, and confirm the power supply and post preparation before production begins so installation day runs smoothly.
Summary
A clear inquiry, accurate measurement, prompt approval and a ready site are what keep a gate project on schedule from order to operation.
