Iron Door Installation Process for Existing Walls
t419-25

Installing an iron door in an existing wall starts with on-site measurement, followed by a written drawing and factory production with protective finishing. On installation day the old frame is removed, the new door is fixed plumb and level, and the gap is sealed and checked.
Before Installation Day: Measuring the Opening
The process begins with a visit to your home. Our team measures the opening at several points, because older walls are rarely perfectly square. We check the width and height at the top, middle and bottom, and note the wall thickness, the floor finish and the swing direction you need.
Please clear the area around the doorway and let us know about any electrical boxes, pipes or tiles close to the frame. These details affect how the door is fixed and whether the surrounding wall needs minor preparation.
Drawing and Written Specification
After measuring, we prepare a drawing and a written specification showing the door size, frame profile, locking points, glass or panel design if any, and the finish. You review these documents and approve them before anything goes into production. This step prevents surprises later and gives you a clear record of what is being built.
Factory Production and Finishing
Each door is made to measure in our factory at Rival Street 37 in Tel Aviv. The frame and leaf are cut, welded and assembled, then finished with hot-dip galvanizing and powder coating where specified. Galvanizing protects the steel against corrosion, which matters for doors facing outdoor air or sea humidity.
Before the door leaves the workshop, we check its fit against the measurements to reduce adjustments on site.
Installation Day: Removing the Old Frame
On the day of installation, the old door and frame are removed carefully. The opening is cleaned and checked for level, plumb and any damage to the surrounding wall. If the wall needs small repairs, these are done before the new frame is placed.
- Protect floors and nearby surfaces with covers
- Keep the entrance accessible for other works
- Confirm the swing direction with the installer
Fixing the Frame and Sealing the Gap
The new frame is placed in the opening and set plumb and level. It is then fixed to the wall with anchors suited to the wall material. The gap between frame and wall is filled and sealed so the door sits firmly and does not transmit movement or water.
Once fixed, the leaf is hung and adjusted so it closes evenly, latches smoothly, and clears the floor at the planned height.
Final Checks and Handover
Before leaving, the installer tests the opening and closing, the locking system, and any hinges or handles. We check that the finish is undamaged and clean up the work area. Ask us to walk through the operation with you so you know how to care for the door.
For railings and other safety-related elements, exact requirements are checked with the engineer, and we follow the general Israeli railing standard SI 1142 where it applies.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the installation take?
Most single door installations are completed within one working day, once the door has been produced and delivered. The exact time depends on the condition of the existing wall and the complexity of the design.
Do I need to move furniture before installation day?
Yes, please clear the path to the doorway and the area next to it. This allows the installers to work safely and protects your belongings from dust and tools.
Can you install a door in an older wall that is not perfectly straight?
Yes, this is common. We measure at several points and adjust the frame so the door hangs plumb and closes properly, filling any small gaps in the wall with appropriate sealing.
Will the door need maintenance after installation?
Galvanized and powder-coated doors need only basic care, such as cleaning and checking the hinges and locks from time to time. We will explain the recommended care when we hand over the door.
Common mistakes to avoid
Many homeowners skip the detailed measurement or order before checking the wall condition, which leads to a poor fit. Clearing the opening too late on installation day can also delay the work.
Our recommendation
Measure the opening yourself beforehand so you can compare it with our on-site measurement, and mention any wall issues early. Let the installer check the level and swing before the final sealing.
Summary
A good iron door installation depends on accurate measurement, an approved drawing, quality factory finishing and careful fitting in the existing wall.
