Ordering Stair Railings for a New Build Project: Step by Step

t334-37

t334-37

To order stair railings for a new build, send the stair drawings and photos, have the railing measured on site once the structure is ready, approve a written specification, and then production and finishing take place in our Tel Aviv factory before installation. Coordinating the order with the structural and finishing schedule avoids most delays.

Start with the drawings and an inquiry

Every new build railing order begins with a clear inquiry. Send the architectural stair drawings, any detail sheets and photos of similar railings you like. Note the intended material, whether steel, stainless steel or glass infill, and whether the railing is for a private house, a shared stairwell or a building committee.

  • Stair plans and cross sections
  • Floor-to-floor heights and landing layout
  • Preferred finish and style references

A complete first package lets us identify questions early, before the structure is poured or finished.

On-site measurement at the right stage

Measure railings when the stair structure is complete enough to show the real geometry. Concrete steps, landings and wall finishes can change dimensions by a few centimeters, so measuring too early is a common source of error. Our team takes measurements on site and records the step nosing positions, the balustrade height and the anchor points.

If the finished floor is not yet laid, agree in writing on the finish thickness to be used in the calculation.

Drawing and written specification

After measurement we prepare a drawing and a written specification. The document lists the profiles, the infill type, the handrail section, the fixing method and the finish. Heights and spacing are checked against the Israeli railing standard SI 1142 with the project engineer, so that the exact values are confirmed for your building before production.

Read the specification carefully; it becomes the reference for what is produced.

Client approval before production

Production starts only after the drawing and specification are approved in writing. Approval should come from the person responsible for the project, whether the contractor, architect or building committee. Any later change, such as a different handrail or a moved post, may require rework and can affect the schedule, so it is best to settle details at this stage.

Factory production and finishing

Railings are cut, welded and assembled in our factory at 37 Rival Street, Tel Aviv. Components that will be exposed to weather are finished by hot-dip galvanizing and, where requested, powder coating. Finishing is done after fabrication, so the railing is delivered ready to install and does not need to be cut or repaired on site.

  • Fabrication to the approved drawing
  • Galvanizing and powder coating as specified
  • Inspection before dispatch

Installation and handover

Installation is planned with the site schedule. Anchor points should be prepared as drawn, with sleeves or base plates set where required. Our installers fix the railing, check level and alignment, and confirm handrail heights before leaving the site. Coordinate with the tiler or finisher so that floor finishes do not damage the fixings or block the base plates.

Frequently asked questions

How far ahead should I order stair railings for a new build?

Order once the drawings are final and the stair structure is far enough along to measure. Allowing time for approval and finishing before the installation date helps keep the site schedule on track.

Should railings be measured before the floor finish is laid?

It is best to measure after the structure is complete, but before the final floor is laid if possible. If that is not possible, agree on the finish thickness in writing so the measurements account for it.

Can the railing design be changed after approval?

Changes are possible but should be requested as early as possible. Changes after production has started may require rework and can affect the delivery plan.

Who should approve the specification?

The person responsible for the project, such as the contractor, architect or building committee representative, should approve the drawing and specification in writing before production begins.

Common mistakes to avoid

Measuring before the stair structure and finishes are complete, and changing the design after production has started, are the two most common causes of rework. Settling measurements and approvals in writing at each step prevents most of these problems.

Our recommendation

Share complete drawings early, agree on the finish thickness with the tiler, and approve a written specification before production so the railing arrives ready to install.

Summary

Ordering stair railings for a new build works best with complete drawings, timely on-site measurement, a written approved specification, and factory finishing before installation.
