Steel-Look Profile Doors: Custom Manufacturing Process Explained

t447-2

t447-2

Custom steel-look profile doors are built to measure from Belgian-style steel-look profiles, starting with on-site measurement and a written drawing, then production in our Tel Aviv factory and finishing before installation. The process gives architects and contractors a door matched to the opening, the design and the building's requirements. Each stage is confirmed with the client before moving on.

Starting With the Inquiry and Site Visit

Every custom project begins with an inquiry, ideally with photos of the opening, the elevation and any reference design. These help us understand the wall type, the door's position and how it relates to adjacent windows or railings.

Next comes an on-site measurement. We check the opening at several points, since walls, floors and frames are rarely perfectly square. Measuring on site, rather than relying only on drawings, prevents fitting problems later and gives us the real dimensions to build against.

Drawing and Written Specification

From the measurements we prepare a drawing and a written specification. The document covers the door dimensions, the profile layout, the opening direction, the glazing or panel arrangement, the hardware positions and the finish. Architects and contractors can review it against their plans before anything is produced.

  • Overall and clear opening dimensions
  • Profile layout and frame sections
  • Hardware and locking positions
  • Colour and finish specification

Client Approval Before Production

Nothing goes into production until the drawing and specification are approved in writing. This is the stage where design changes are cheapest to make. If the architect wants a different panel division or the contractor needs an adjusted sill height, it is resolved on paper.

Approval also protects both sides. The client knows exactly what will be delivered, and we know exactly what to build, which keeps the project on track.

Factory Production of the Profiles

Once approved, the door is fabricated in our factory on Rival Street. The steel-look profiles are cut, joined and assembled to the approved drawing, and frames and leaves are checked for square and alignment during assembly. Hardware is prepared and fitted at this stage so the door arrives ready to hang.

Working in the workshop rather than on site allows tighter control over dimensions and joints, which is important when the door must sit precisely in a pre-existing opening.

Finishing: Galvanizing and Powder Coating

Finishing protects the door and defines its appearance. Components can be hot-dip galvanized for corrosion resistance and then powder coated in the chosen colour, giving the steel-look surface a durable, even finish. Coating is applied after fabrication so that joints and edges are fully covered.

When discussing finish with your project team, confirm the colour reference and whether the door will face an exposed or sheltered location, as this affects the choice of finish.

Installation and Handover

The completed door is delivered and installed to the approved opening. Installation includes setting the frame level and plumb, adjusting the leaf so it closes evenly, and checking the hardware operates smoothly. Sealing and final fixing are completed so the door performs as specified.

Once installed, we review the result with the architect or contractor and note any final adjustments before handover.

Frequently asked questions

Can a steel-look profile door be made in a non-standard size?

Yes, custom fabrication is built around your measured opening rather than a catalogue size. Accurate on-site measurement is what makes a non-standard door fit correctly.

Do I need to approve the drawing before production starts?

Yes, the drawing and written specification are approved in writing before any production begins. This is the cheapest point to make changes.

What finishes are available for these doors?

Components can be hot-dip galvanized and powder coated in a chosen colour. Confirm the finish reference and the exposure of the location during the specification stage.

Who handles the installation?

Installation is part of the process, including setting the frame, adjusting the leaf and checking the hardware. Final adjustments are reviewed with you at handover.

Common mistakes to avoid

The most common error is ordering from rough dimensions taken off plans without a site check, which leads to fitting problems on site. Skipping the written approval stage to save time often causes costly changes after production has started.

Our recommendation

Share photos and an on-site measurement with your fabricator early, and get the drawing approved in writing before production. Confirm the finish and hardware positions at the same time so nothing is left to assumption.

Summary

Custom steel-look profile doors follow a clear path from measurement and drawing to approval, factory production, finishing and installation. Approving each stage in writing keeps the door matched to the opening and the design.
