Approval Steps in a Custom Steel Frame Project

t488-16

t488-16

A custom steel frame project moves through clear sign-off stages: inquiry with photos, on-site measurement, a written drawing and specification you approve, factory production, then installation. Approving the drawing before production is the key checkpoint, because every later change costs more time and money to correct.

Step 1: Inquiry and Initial Photos

Every project starts with a short inquiry. Send photos of the opening or area where the frame will go, along with a rough description of what you need, such as a gate, a pergola, a stair structure or a set of window bars. Photos taken straight on and from a few steps back help us understand the site before we visit.

At this stage nothing is locked in. We use your inquiry to decide whether a site visit is needed and which type of steel suits the use.

Step 2: On-Site Measurement

Our team measures the site in person. We record opening sizes, wall materials, floor levels, and any obstacles such as pipes, cables or existing railings. Measurements taken on site are what the frame is built to, so this step prevents most fit problems later.

  • Check the site conditions with us before any wall or floor work begins
  • Mention any planned changes, like tiling or new cladding, so the frame accounts for them

Step 3: Drawing and Written Specification

After measuring, we prepare a drawing and a written specification. The drawing shows the layout, dimensions, connection points and fixing method. The specification lists the materials, profiles, finish and any safety requirements.

Read both documents carefully. Ask about anything that is unclear, such as load expectations, anchor points or how the frame meets the wall. Where safety requirements apply, such as the Israeli railing standard SI 1142, we confirm the exact values with the engineer rather than assuming them.

Step 4: Client Approval Sign-Off

Approval means you have reviewed the drawing and specification and agree to them in writing. This is the most important checkpoint in the whole process. Once you approve, we move to production using those exact dimensions and materials.

Before you sign, confirm

  • Overall dimensions and opening sizes match your site
  • Finish type and colour are what you expect
  • Who will be responsible for on-site coordination

Step 5: Factory Production and Finishing

Production happens in our factory at 37 Rival Street, Tel Aviv. The steel is cut, welded and assembled to the approved drawing. Once the frame is built, it goes through its finish, such as hot-dip galvanizing or powder coating, depending on the specification.

If a change is needed during production, we stop and contact you before continuing. We do not make changes to an approved drawing without your agreement.

Step 6: Installation and Final Check

Installation is carried out on site once the frame is ready and the wall or floor preparation is complete. Our team fixes the frame, checks alignment, levels it and tests any moving parts such as gates or hinges. We walk through the finished work with you before closing the job.

A final check helps confirm the frame matches the approved drawing. Note any concern at this stage so we can address it while the team is still on site.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to approve the drawing before production starts?

Yes. Written approval of the drawing and specification is required before we start production. This protects you from paying for a frame built to the wrong dimensions or specification.

Can I request changes after approving the drawing?

Changes are possible but may affect timing and cost. Tell us as early as possible, and we will confirm in writing how the change affects the approved drawing before any work is updated.

Who measures the site?

Our team measures the site in person. Measuring on site gives us the actual conditions the frame must fit, rather than relying only on photos or plans.

What if I am not sure about the technical details?

Ask us to explain any point in the drawing or specification. For safety-related values, we check with the engineer so you get accurate information rather than an estimate.

Common mistakes to avoid

A common mistake is approving a drawing without checking the dimensions against the actual site, or agreeing to changes verbally and not in writing. Both can lead to rework that could have been avoided.

Our recommendation

Walk the site with the drawing in hand before signing, and check every opening, fixing point and clearance against it. Writing down any change request before production begins saves the most time and cost.

Summary

Custom steel frame projects follow six stages: inquiry, measurement, drawing, sign-off, production and installation. Approving the drawing in writing before production is the step that keeps the project on track.
