How We Cut and Shape Steel for Custom Frames at Techno Kol Uzi
t488-17

Our steel cutting and shaping process starts with an on-site measurement and a written drawing, then moves to precise cutting, bending and welding in our Tel Aviv factory. Each piece is finished with hot-dip galvanizing or powder coating before it is installed on site.
Starting With an Accurate Site Measurement
Every custom frame begins at the building, not in the workshop. Our team visits the site to measure openings, check whether walls are plumb and level, and note where the frame will be fixed. Real openings are rarely perfect, so we record several measurements for each dimension rather than relying on the plan alone.
Photos and notes from the visit help us understand access, surface materials and any existing elements that the frame must work around.
Drawing and Specification Before Cutting
Once measurements are complete, we prepare a drawing and a written specification. The drawing shows profile sizes, joint locations, fixing points and the finish. The specification lists the steel grade, wall thickness and any special requirements.
- Frame dimensions and tolerances
- Profile type and section size
- Fixing method and anchor positions
- Chosen finish
The client approves the drawing before any material is cut, which prevents costly changes later.
Cutting the Steel to Length
With an approved drawing, the steel is marked and cut to length. We use saws and cutting equipment suited to each profile, checking the length against the drawing before and after cutting. Square, clean ends matter because they make later joints tighter and easier to assemble.
Each cut piece is labeled so that it can be matched quickly to its place in the frame during assembly.
Shaping, Bending and Joining
Where a design calls for curves, angles or decorative forms, the steel is bent or shaped using controlled methods. Bending is checked against templates so that repeated pieces match. Straight sections are then joined by welding, and the welds are dressed so the joints look neat and feel smooth.
During assembly, the frame is checked on a flat surface to confirm that it is square and that the dimensions match the drawing.
Finishing for Durability
Steel that will stand outdoors needs protection from moisture and weather. Depending on the project, we use hot-dip galvanizing, which coats the steel in a layer of zinc, or powder coating, which gives a durable colored finish. Surface preparation before finishing is important, since a clean surface helps the coating bond well.
We discuss the finish with the client during the approval stage so that the choice suits the location and the look they want.
Installation on Site
On installation day, the frame is fixed to the building using anchors and fixings matched to the wall type. Our installers level and plumb the frame before fastening it, and they check that gaps and fixing points follow the drawing.
For railings and other safety elements, we aim to meet the Israeli railing standard SI 1142. Exact values are confirmed with the engineer for each project, so we never assume them.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the steel cutting and shaping process take?
The time depends on the size and complexity of the frame and on the finish chosen. We confirm the schedule with you after the drawing is approved.
Do you measure on site or from photos?
We measure on site, because photos can miss small variations in walls and openings. Photos are useful for planning but do not replace a visit.
Can you make curved or decorative steel shapes?
Yes, we bend and shape steel for curved, angled and decorative designs. We check each shape against templates to keep repeated pieces consistent.
Why is the drawing approved before cutting?
The approved drawing confirms dimensions, profiles and finish before material is cut. This avoids mistakes and the cost of remaking pieces.
Common mistakes to avoid
A common mistake is ordering a frame from a plan alone without checking real openings on site. Changing a design after the steel is cut usually means waste and delay.
Our recommendation
Measure every opening at least twice and share photos of the surroundings with your fabricator before approving a drawing. Choose the finish together with the installation location, since outdoor frames need stronger protection than indoor ones.
Summary
Our steel cutting and shaping process moves from careful measurement and approved drawings to precise production, protective finishing and professional installation in Tel Aviv.
