Balcony Privacy Railing Screen: Planned Into Your Design
t320-16

A balcony privacy railing screen can be built into the railing itself, using panels, perforated metal or glass that block sightlines from neighbors while keeping the view open. The best results come from planning the screen during the measurement stage, so the infill, height and fixings are designed together with the railing.
Why plan the screen at the start
Adding privacy after a railing is already installed often means compromises in fixings, height or appearance. When the screen is part of the first drawing, the frame, posts and infill are designed to carry it from the beginning.
Planning early also lets you decide how much of the balcony should be screened. Some residents want only the lower part of the railing covered, while others prefer a full-height panel on one side.
Measuring the balcony for partial screening
During the on-site visit we measure the balcony length, the railing height, the position of posts and the direction of the neighboring views. We also note where the sun and wind reach the balcony, since these affect the choice of infill.
- Length and depth of each railing section
- Height from the finished floor
- Wall and slab details for fixing points
- Sightlines from neighboring windows and balconies
Choosing the screen infill
Common options include vertical or horizontal steel bars with a close spacing, perforated sheet metal, laminated or frosted glass, and aluminum slats. Each one gives a different balance between privacy, light and airflow.
Perforated panels let air and some light pass through while breaking up the view. Glass gives a clean look and a wider sense of openness. Our team will explain the trade-offs for your specific balcony during the planning call.
Drawing and written specification
After measuring, we prepare a drawing that shows the railing layout, the screened zones and the infill pattern. A written specification lists materials, finishes and fixing method, so you know exactly what will be built.
Height and load requirements are checked against the Israeli railing standard SI 1142 and confirmed with the engineer, so the screen is safe as well as attractive. You approve the drawing before production begins.
Production and finishing in our factory
Once the drawing is approved, the frame, posts and infill are cut and welded in our workshop at 37 Rival Street, Tel Aviv. Working in the factory allows precise fitting of each panel before it reaches your building.
Finishing is done by hot-dip galvanizing for corrosion protection, followed by powder coating in the color you choose. Coastal air in Tel Aviv makes this step especially important for balcony metalwork.
Installation and final check
On installation day, the posts are fixed to the slab or wall according to the specification, then the panels are mounted and aligned. We check levels, fixings and the gap between infill and floor before leaving the site.
- Fixing points confirmed against the drawing
- Panels aligned and tested by hand
- Finish checked for scratches or damage
Frequently asked questions
Can I screen only part of my balcony railing?
Yes. Partial screening is one of the most common requests, and the infill can cover only the sections facing neighbors while the rest stays open.
Will a privacy screen block all light and air?
Not necessarily. Perforated metal and slatted designs let air and much of the light through, while solid glass or dense panels block more. The choice depends on the balance you want.
Do I need to measure before ordering?
Yes. We take the measurements on site, since exact dimensions, fixing points and sightlines are needed to prepare an accurate drawing.
How is a screen made to last on a balcony?
Components are hot-dip galvanized and then powder coated, which protects the metal from the salty, humid air common in Tel Aviv.
Common mistakes to avoid
A common mistake is choosing infill without checking the sightlines from neighboring units, which can leave gaps in privacy. Another is leaving fixings and height to the last stage, which often forces a compromise in strength or appearance.
Our recommendation
Ask for the screen to be drawn together with the railing, not added afterward, and request a sample or photo of the infill in daylight before choosing it.
Summary
A balcony privacy railing screen works best when it is planned with the railing from the first measurement, so the infill, height and fixings match your view and your balcony.
