Measuring Aluminum Windows for Balcony and Terrace Enclosures
t404-43

Balcony window measurement means recording the exact opening width, height and depth at several points, then checking for level, plumb and obstacles before ordering. Accurate measurements taken on site, verified by a professional before production, prevent gaps, misfits and costly rework when aluminum windows are installed.
Why accurate balcony window measurement matters
A balcony enclosure is only as good as the numbers behind it. Aluminum windows are manufactured to measure, which means every millimeter of the opening goes directly into the frame drawing. A small error that looks harmless on paper can leave a visible gap, cause sliding panels to bind, or stop a window from closing properly against the seals.
Balconies also differ from standard wall openings. Floors may slope toward the drain, walls are rarely perfectly plumb, and older buildings often have uneven concrete. Measuring with care is what makes a precise fit possible.
What to measure on a balcony opening
Measure the opening at more than one point, because a single reading can hide irregularities. Record the following for each opening:
- Width at the top, middle and bottom
- Height at the left, center and right
- Depth of the reveal, including any tiles or plaster
- Position of railings, beams, pipes and electrical boxes
- Floor level and any threshold height
Note whether the opening is square by comparing diagonals. Mark everything on a simple sketch so the measurements are easy to review later.
Measuring on site: our process
At Techno Kol Uzi, a technician visits the balcony, takes the measurements and photographs the surroundings. We check the wall condition, the finish that will remain, and how the window will open and where it will sit relative to the floor and ceiling.
If anything is unclear, we ask before drawing. This step is free of any obligation to order, and it gives you a clear picture of what the enclosure will involve before work begins.
From drawing to approval
After the site visit, we prepare a drawing and a written specification covering frame dimensions, opening direction, profile type, glazing and finish. Nothing goes into production until you have reviewed and approved this document.
Check the drawing carefully. Confirm the sizes, the opening side and the sliding or fixed panels. Approving the drawing in writing protects both you and the project, because the factory builds exactly what is approved.
Production and finishing in our factory
Once approved, the aluminum frames are cut, assembled and glazed in our Tel Aviv workshop at 37 Rival Street. Because the work is done in the factory rather than on the balcony, dimensions are controlled under consistent conditions.
Finishing is then applied to suit your building and your taste. Surfaces are prepared and coated so the windows hold their appearance in the weather that balconies are exposed to every day.
Installation and final checks
Installation starts with checking the opening once more, since small changes can happen between measurement and delivery. The frame is set level and plumb, fixed securely and sealed around the perimeter to keep out water and draughts.
- Confirm level, plumb and square
- Fix the frame to the structure
- Seal joints and check that sliding panels run freely
- Review operation with you before we leave
Frequently asked questions
Should I measure the balcony window myself?
You can take rough measurements for your own planning, but final sizes should be taken by a technician on site. Professional measurement accounts for floor slope, wall irregularities and the finish that will remain.
Why do you measure in more than one place?
Balcony openings are rarely perfectly rectangular. Measuring the top, middle and bottom of the width, and each side of the height, reveals irregularities that a single reading would miss.
Do I need to approve a drawing before production?
Yes. We prepare a drawing and written specification for your approval, and production starts only after you confirm the dimensions and details in writing.
Are the windows made to measure for my balcony?
Yes. Aluminum windows are manufactured to the measurements of your opening, which is why accurate balcony window measurement is the first and most important step in the process.
Common mistakes to avoid
The most common errors are measuring only once, ignoring floor slope and forgetting the reveal depth or finish thickness. Each of these can lead to a frame that does not fit the opening as expected.
Our recommendation
Measure at three points for each dimension, photograph the opening with a tape in view, and review the approved drawing line by line before production. Taking a few extra minutes at this stage saves the most time and cost later.
Summary
Balcony window measurement done carefully on site, followed by an approved drawing and factory production, gives aluminum windows that fit the opening correctly and install cleanly.
