Railing Quality Control Process: How We Check Stair Railings
t334-23

A railing quality control process checks the work at each stage: accurate on-site measurement, a clear written specification, controlled production in the factory, proper surface finishing, and careful installation. Techno Kol Uzi reviews each step before the railing moves to the next one, so the final stair railing matches the approved drawing and is safe to use.
Step 1: Measuring the Stairs On Site
Quality starts before any metal is cut. Our team visits the site and measures the staircase directly, rather than relying only on plans, because walls, floors and steps are often not perfectly straight or level. We record the rise and run of each step, the wall-to-railing distances, the landing dimensions and the height of the existing structure.
- Check wall condition and fixing points
- Note any obstacles such as switches or pipes
- Photograph every section for reference
Accurate measurements here prevent most fitting problems later.
Step 2: Drawing and Written Specification
Once the measurements are complete, we prepare a drawing and a written specification. The document lists the railing type, materials, dimensions, post spacing, infill style and finish. You review it and approve it before production begins. Any change requested at this stage is far easier and cheaper to handle than one found after welding.
Exact safety values are confirmed with the engineer against the Israeli railing standard SI 1142 and the project requirements.
Step 3: Material Inspection
Before cutting, we check the incoming steel or stainless steel for thickness, surface condition and any visible defects. Profiles are compared with the specification so that the correct grade and size are used. Materials that do not meet the requirements are set aside and never enter production.
Step 4: Controlled Production in the Factory
Our workshop at Rival Street 37 in Tel Aviv cuts, bends and welds each railing to measure. During production we check lengths, angles, post alignment and the straightness of handrails. Welds are inspected for full penetration and a clean finish, and the assembled section is tested for fit against the drawing before it leaves the workshop. Small adjustments are made immediately while the piece is still in the workshop.
Step 5: Surface Finishing
Finishing protects the railing for years, especially outdoors. Depending on the design, we use hot-dip galvanizing for corrosion protection and powder coating for the final colour and surface. After finishing we inspect each piece for coating thickness, colour consistency, scratches and runs, and we repair any defect before packing.
Step 6: Installation and Final Check
During installation our crew fixes the posts and rails according to the approved drawing and checks that every element is plumb, level and firmly anchored. After fitting, we walk the full length of the railing, test the handrail for stability and confirm that the finished work matches the specification. Any gap or misalignment is corrected before we close the job.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the railing quality control process take?
The process runs in stages, from measurement and drawing approval through production, finishing and installation. The exact schedule depends on the project size and is agreed with you at the start.
Do you approve the drawing before production?
Yes. You receive a drawing and written specification and must approve them before any material is cut. This prevents surprises and keeps the final result aligned with your expectations.
How do you check that a railing is safe?
We verify dimensions, post spacing, weld quality and anchoring during production and installation. Safety values are confirmed with the engineer against the Israeli standard SI 1142.
Can you check a railing after it is installed?
Yes. We do a final walk-through after installation, testing handrail stability and checking alignment, and we correct any issue before the job is complete.
Common mistakes to avoid
Many problems come from skipping on-site measurement or approving a sketch without a written specification. Always confirm dimensions and finish before production starts.
Our recommendation
Ask for the measurement record and the approved drawing before work begins, and inspect the finish on a sample if possible. Clear documents protect both you and the manufacturer.
Summary
A solid railing quality control process checks every stage, from measuring the stairs to the final installation check, so the railing is accurate, durable and safe.
