Security Door Panel Design: Infill and Pattern Options

t418-10

A security door panel is the decorative and protective infill set within an iron or aluminum door frame, and it can be made in solid sheet, perforated, bar, or laser-cut patterns. The right choice depends on the level of privacy and ventilation you need, the style of your home, and the structural strength the door must carry. Techno Kol Uzi designs each panel to measure, after on-site measurement and a written specification you approve before production begins.

Why panel design matters for a security door

The panel is the part of the door you see first and the part that determines how much light, air and privacy pass through. It also affects weight, wind load and how well the door resists forced entry. A well-planned panel balances these needs instead of treating appearance as an afterthought.

When you start planning, think about three questions: how much you want to see through the door, how much the door will be used, and how the design should match the building facade and any existing railings or windows.

Common infill and pattern options

Most custom panels fall into a few families. Each offers a different balance of security, visibility and style:

  • Solid steel sheet, for maximum privacy and a clean modern look
  • Perforated sheet, for airflow with partial screening
  • Flat or round bar grilles, for an open and classic appearance
  • Laser-cut or hand-designed patterns, for a personal signature design

Patterns can be geometric, floral, or abstract. Simpler shapes are usually easier to keep clean and to maintain over time.

Measurement and planning on site

Accurate measurement is the foundation of a good panel. After the initial inquiry with photos, our team visits the site to measure the opening, check the frame condition, confirm the swing direction and note any obstacles such as thresholds or electrical boxes.

Bring the photos of the door and the surroundings to the visit, and mention any plans to add a peephole, handle, or lock. These details influence where the panel can be cut and where reinforcement is needed.

Drawing and written specification

Once measurements are taken, we prepare a drawing that shows the panel layout, pattern placement, bar spacing or perforation size, and the frame profile. A written specification accompanies the drawing and lists the materials, finish, and any structural reinforcement.

Review the drawing carefully. Check the pattern alignment, the position of cut-outs, and the overall proportions. Approval of the drawing and specification is the step that locks the design before production starts.

Production and finishing in our workshop

Production takes place in our factory at 37 Rival Street, Tel Aviv, where we cut, weld and assemble the panel and frame. Iron components are typically protected by hot-dip galvanizing and then powder coated, which gives long-lasting corrosion resistance. Aluminum components receive their own suitable finish.

Each step is checked for fit and finish so the panel sits square in the frame and the pattern lines up as drawn.

Installation and aftercare

On installation day, the door is hung and adjusted so it closes smoothly and the locking points engage correctly. We check clearances, seals and hardware alignment before leaving the site.

For aftercare, wipe the surface with mild soapy water, avoid abrasive cleaners, and inspect hinges and fixings once or twice a year. Reach out if you notice any change in the door's alignment.

Frequently asked questions

Can I choose my own pattern for the panel?

Yes. We can work from a sketch, photo or existing design you like, and adapt it so it fits the door size and structure. The final pattern is confirmed in the drawing before production.

Which panel type gives the most privacy?

Solid steel sheet offers the most privacy, while perforated sheet and bar grilles let in more light and air. The best option depends on how visible you want the interior to be.

How do I know the panel will fit my existing frame?

We measure the opening on site and check the frame condition before drawing anything. The drawing reflects those measurements, so the panel is made to fit your specific opening.

What finish protects the metal best?

For iron, hot-dip galvanizing followed by powder coating gives strong corrosion protection. Aluminum is finished according to its use. We discuss the most suitable option during planning.

Common mistakes to avoid

Choosing a pattern without checking how it will look from both sides of the door, and skipping on-site measurement based only on old dimensions. Both can lead to misaligned or poorly proportioned panels.

Our recommendation

Ask for a drawing that shows the full door, not just the panel, and check how the pattern lines up with the handle, lock and frame edges before approving it.

Summary

A good security door panel combines the right infill, a pattern suited to your home, and careful measurement, drawing and finishing. Following a clear process keeps the result accurate and long-lasting.
