Stainless Steel Glass Railing Posts: How Clamps Are Made

t348-14

t348-14

Stainless steel glass railing posts and clamps are made to measure after an on-site survey, a written drawing and client approval. The parts are cut, formed and finished in our Tel Aviv workshop, then installed so the glass is held securely and evenly.

Why the Posts and Clamps Matter

In a glass railing, the glass panels are only as stable as the hardware that holds them. The posts carry the load, and the clamps grip the glass edges and transfer that load into the structure. Because the glass itself is rigid and unforgiving, the supporting parts must be planned with care before any metal is cut.

Stainless steel is a common choice for these parts because it resists corrosion in outdoor conditions and keeps a clean, modern appearance over time. Each project is different, so the posts and clamps are designed around the specific building, the glass thickness and the position of the railing.

On-Site Measurement and Planning

The process starts with a site visit. We measure the length of each run, the height of the railing, the floor or slab edge where posts will be fixed, and any obstacles such as steps or corners. We also record the glass type and thickness that the designer or contractor has specified.

  • Run lengths and corner positions
  • Fixing surface: slab edge, floor or wall
  • Glass thickness and edge finish
  • Access and site conditions

These measurements feed a drawing and a written specification. Exact structural values are confirmed with the engineer, with reference to the Israeli railing standard SI 1142 where it applies.

Drawing, Specification and Client Approval

Once the measurements are checked, we prepare a drawing showing post positions, clamp types, fixing details and finish. The written specification lists the stainless steel grade, the profile sizes and the fixing method. Nothing goes into production until the client, architect or engineer has approved both documents.

This step prevents costly changes later. A clear approved drawing also helps the building committee or contractor understand exactly what will be installed and where.

Cutting, Forming and Assembly in the Factory

In the workshop, stainless steel tube and plate are cut to the approved lengths and drilled for fixings. Clamp bodies are formed and machined so that the glass seats evenly and the gripping surfaces are smooth. Parts are checked against the drawing as they are made, so that each post and clamp matches its position on site.

Welded joints are ground and finished so the surfaces look uniform. Holes and slots are kept consistent so that installation on site goes quickly.

Finishing the Stainless Steel

After forming, the stainless steel parts are finished to the specified look, such as brushed or polished. Surfaces are cleaned to remove shop residue and oils, which helps the finish look even and reduces staining in service. Protective film or packing is applied so the parts reach site without scratches.

Finishing is planned in the same drawing stage as the geometry, so that the chosen surface matches the other metalwork on the building.

Installation on Site

On site, the posts are fixed to the slab edge, floor or wall using the specified anchors. Alignment is checked before the glass is set, because small errors in post position show clearly once glass panels are in place. The clamps are then fitted and tightened so that each glass panel sits level and holds firmly without stressing the edge.

  • Check fixing surfaces and anchor positions
  • Align posts with the approved drawing
  • Fit clamps and set glass panels
  • Final check of levels and tightness

Frequently asked questions

Can stainless steel posts be made to a non-standard height?

Yes, posts are produced to the height and profile set in the approved drawing. The final height is confirmed during the on-site measurement.

Do I need a drawing before production starts?

Yes, a drawing and written specification are prepared and approved by the client, architect or engineer before any metal is cut.

Which standard applies to glass railings in Israel?

The Israeli railing standard SI 1142 is the general reference, and exact structural values are checked with the engineer for each project.

Are the clamps produced in the same workshop as the posts?

Yes, the posts and clamps are cut, formed and finished together in our Tel Aviv factory so that the parts match the approved drawing.

Common mistakes to avoid

Ordering hardware before the glass thickness and fixing surface are confirmed often leads to parts that do not fit. Skipping the approved drawing also causes misalignment that is hard to correct after installation.

Our recommendation

Send the glass thickness, railing height and a photo of the fixing surface at the start, so the measurement visit and drawing can be completed in one cycle. Ask for the finish to be decided at the drawing stage to avoid mismatches with other metalwork.

Summary

Stainless steel glass railing posts and clamps are measured, drawn, approved, made in our factory and installed with careful alignment. Planning at each stage keeps the glass secure and the finish consistent.
