Balcony Railing Anchor Installation: How Railings Are Fixed to Concrete
t320-24

A balcony railing is fixed to the concrete with anchors set into drilled holes, sized and spaced to suit the load and the condition of the slab. Techno Kol Uzi measures on site, drafts a written specification, produces the railing in our Tel Aviv factory, and installs it with fixings chosen for your balcony. Exact anchor values are confirmed with the engineer before work begins.
Measuring the Balcony Before Anything Is Built
Every railing starts with an on-site measurement. Our team checks the balcony edge, the height of the slab above the floor, the wall thickness, and any existing tiles or waterproofing that could affect where anchors can go.
We also look at the concrete itself. Cracks, loose areas, or old repairs are noted, because they decide whether a standard fixing is enough or whether the base needs attention first.
- Length and height of each run
- Edge type: slab edge, parapet or wall
- Condition and thickness of the concrete
- Tiles, screed and waterproofing layers
Planning the Anchor Layout
Once measurements are taken, we prepare a drawing that shows where each base plate and anchor will sit. Spacing depends on the railing design, the length of the run, and the position of posts and corners, since these points carry the most force.
The plan is reviewed with you before production. Changes are easier at this stage than after steel is cut and welded. Exact anchor sizes and load requirements are confirmed with the engineer, in line with the Israeli railing standard SI 1142.
Written Specification and Your Approval
Along with the drawing, you receive a written specification listing the materials, finish, railing height, infill type and fixing method. Reading it carefully helps avoid misunderstandings about what is included.
Please confirm the drawing and specification in writing. Once approved, the job moves into production, and any later changes may affect the schedule and the fixings.
Production in Our Factory
Railings are made to measure in our workshop at 37 Rival Street, Tel Aviv, where we have worked in iron, aluminum and stainless steel since 1945. Posts, rails and base plates are cut, drilled and welded to the approved drawing.
Base plates are drilled in the factory at the planned positions, so the holes line up with the anchors on site. The finish, such as hot-dip galvanizing or powder coating, is applied before the railing leaves the workshop.
Drilling and Fixing on Site
On installation day, the installer marks the anchor points using the approved drawing and checks them against the slab. Holes are drilled to the depth and diameter specified for the chosen anchor, and cleaned of dust so the anchor can grip properly.
- Mark anchor points from the drawing
- Drill to specified depth and diameter
- Clean holes before inserting anchors
- Set anchors and tighten to the correct torque
- Check level and alignment of the railing
Checking the Railing After Installation
After fixing, we check that the railing is plumb, level and firmly attached. Each anchor is inspected, and the base plates are checked for any movement under hand pressure.
We recommend a periodic look at the anchor points, especially after heavy weather or if the balcony surface has been disturbed by other works nearby. Small issues are much easier to correct early.
Frequently asked questions
Can balcony railings be fixed to any concrete surface?
Most balcony slabs can take a railing, but the concrete must be sound and of adequate thickness. We check its condition on site and confirm the fixing method with the engineer before installation.
Do you drill the holes in the factory or on site?
Base plate holes are drilled in our factory to match the planned layout, while the anchor holes in the concrete are drilled on site during installation.
How do you know the railing will be strong enough?
Anchor type, spacing and fixing details are planned against the railing design and the Israeli railing standard SI 1142, and confirmed with the engineer. Exact values are not guessed on site.
What should I prepare before the installer arrives?
Clear the balcony so the team can reach the edges, and let us know about any tiles, cracks or waterproofing you are aware of. This helps us plan the anchor positions correctly.
Common mistakes to avoid
Choosing a fixing without checking the concrete condition or thickness is a common error, and so is changing the railing layout after production has begun. Both can lead to weak anchors or costly rework.
Our recommendation
Share photos and the balcony dimensions at the start, and ask for the anchor layout drawing before approving production. Confirm the fixing details with the engineer so the anchors are matched to your slab.
Summary
Balcony railings are measured, planned, produced in our Tel Aviv factory and anchored to the concrete with fixings suited to your balcony. Careful planning at each step keeps the installation safe and accurate.
