Gate Fabrication Process: From Cutting to Welding
t278-19

A custom gate is made in stages: an on-site measurement, a written drawing and specification you approve, then cutting, welding and assembly in our Tel Aviv factory, followed by galvanizing or powder coating and installation at your home. Each stage checks the one before it, so the finished gate fits your opening and matches the plan.
Step 1: Inquiry and On-Site Measurement
Every gate starts with a conversation. You send us photos of the opening and tell us how you plan to use it, whether for a car, pedestrians, or both. We then visit the site to measure the opening at several heights, since walls and ground are rarely perfectly level.
We record the width, height, the swing direction, the post positions and the slope of the path. These details decide whether the gate will swing, slide, or fold, and they prevent surprises once the steel is cut.
Step 2: Drawing and Written Specification
Using the measurements, we prepare a drawing and a written specification. It lists the frame profiles, infill pattern, hinge and lock types, and the finish. You review it before anything is produced, and changes at this stage are simple and quick.
- Overall dimensions and clearances
- Frame and infill materials
- Hardware and automation, if needed
- Surface finish and colour
Step 3: Cutting the Steel
Once you approve the drawing, the steel is cut to the listed lengths in our factory. Accurate cutting matters because small errors add up across a frame. We mark each piece with its drawing reference so that every part can be traced back to the plan.
Angles are cut to match the frame joints, and the cut edges are cleaned so they sit tightly against each other during assembly.
Step 4: Assembly and Welding
The frame is assembled on a flat table and checked for square before welding. Tack welds hold the pieces in position, and then the full welds are made. The skilled welders work to the drawing and check that the gate stays square and flat as the heat is applied.
After welding, we grind the joints smooth and remove slag, so the surface is ready for finishing.
Step 5: Finishing and Protection
Steel left bare will rust, so the gate receives a protective finish. Hot-dip galvanizing gives strong, long-lasting corrosion protection, and powder coating adds the colour you chose. Some gates use both, which suits coastal air and heavy use well.
Finishing is done by specialised processes, and we coordinate the timing so the gate is ready when your installation date arrives.
Step 6: Installation at Your Home
Our team delivers the gate and installs it on the posts you have prepared, or on the posts we set during installation. We adjust the hinges and latch so the gate swings freely, closes fully and locks securely, and we check the clearance to the ground and to the adjacent wall.
Before we leave, we walk through the operation with you, including any automation, so you know how to use and care for the gate.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a custom gate take from measurement to installation?
The timeline depends on the design and current workload, so we confirm the schedule once the drawing is approved. Measurement and drawing come first, and production follows only after you sign off.
Can I change the design after the drawing is approved?
Changes are possible before cutting begins, and it is much easier and cheaper to make them at the drawing stage. Once steel is cut or welded, changes become difficult, so we recommend finalizing details early.
Why is the gate measured on site instead of from my photos?
Photos do not show exact dimensions, level, or wall alignment. On-site measurement ensures the gate fits the real opening and avoids costly corrections later.
Does a galvanized gate still need maintenance?
Galvanized steel needs very little care, but occasional cleaning and checking the hinges and latch keep it working well for years. We explain the simple care steps at installation.
Common mistakes to avoid
Homeowners often order a gate from rough measurements taken before the posts are set, which leads to a poor fit. Always confirm the opening dimensions on site and approve the drawing before production begins.
Our recommendation
Ask for the written drawing and specification before approving anything, and check the swing direction, clearances and finish on paper. A few minutes reviewing the plan saves weeks of rework.
Summary
Our gate process moves from measurement to drawing, cutting, welding, finishing and installation, with your approval at each key step. This keeps the gate accurate, durable and right for your home.
