Quality Checks During Security Bar Production

t264-19

t264-19

Security bar quality control runs through every stage, from on-site measurement and approved drawings to material checks, welding inspection, surface finishing and final fitting on site. Each step is verified against the written specification so the finished bars fit the opening, carry the load they were designed for and last in outdoor conditions.

Measurement and Site Verification

Quality starts before any metal is cut. A technician visits the site and measures each window or balcony opening at several points, because walls are rarely perfectly square. Differences between the top, middle and bottom of an opening are recorded, along with the wall material, the depth of the reveal and the position of any frames or sills.

These readings decide the final dimensions, so they are checked twice before the drawing is prepared. Photos taken during the visit help confirm details later.

Drawings and Written Specification

The measured data is turned into a drawing that shows the bar layout, spacing, bar profile size, fixing points and the type of finish. A written specification accompanies it, listing materials, coatings and installation method.

  • The client reviews and approves the drawing before production starts.
  • Any change after approval is recorded and re-confirmed.

This step prevents most fit problems, because the factory builds exactly what was agreed.

Material Inspection in the Factory

Before cutting, the steel or aluminum profiles are checked for correct type, thickness and straightness. Damaged or bent lengths are set aside rather than used. Cut lengths are measured against the drawing, and a sample of each batch is checked with a square and tape so that errors are caught early.

Consistent material is important because the bars must resist bending and forced entry as designed, and small variations in thickness can change that performance.

Welding and Assembly Checks

Each frame is assembled on a flat table to keep corners square and the grid even. After welding, the joints are inspected for full penetration, clean bead appearance and the absence of cracks or gaps. Welds are ground smooth where they will be visible or touched.

  • Corners checked for 90-degree alignment.
  • Diagonal measurements compared to confirm the frame is not twisted.
  • Fixing points verified against the drawing.

Surface Treatment and Finish Inspection

Iron bars are typically hot-dip galvanized and then powder coated for long-term protection, while aluminum parts receive their own surface finish. Each piece is inspected for even coating thickness, colour match with the approved sample, and the absence of runs, bubbles, bare spots or dust inclusions.

Pieces that fail are stripped or recoated before they leave the factory, so the finish seen on site matches the sample the client approved.

Final Fit and On-Site Installation

Before delivery, bars can be test-fitted in the factory or checked against the drawing once more. On site, the installer confirms the fixing method suits the wall material, drills to the marked points, and levels each bar. Fixings are tightened, and the finished work is checked for alignment, secure anchoring and clearance from the glass or frame.

Any remaining question about load or fixing is reviewed with the engineer, who confirms the details against the applicable Israeli railing standard SI 1142 and project requirements.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make sure the bars fit my opening?

We measure the opening at several points on site and build from those readings. A drawing is approved by you before production, so the bars are made to the agreed dimensions.

Do you inspect the galvanizing and powder coating?

Yes. Coated pieces are checked for even thickness, colour match with the approved sample, and surface defects such as runs or bare spots. Faulty pieces are redone before delivery.

What checks are made on welds?

Welded joints are inspected for full penetration, clean appearance and cracks or gaps, and corners are checked for square. Visible welds are ground smooth.

Can I see the work before it is installed?

You can review the approved drawing and finish sample beforehand, and the finished pieces are checked before delivery. Final installation is checked on site for alignment and secure fixing.

Common mistakes to avoid

Ordering from a rough estimate without an on-site measurement, or approving a drawing without checking the bar spacing and finish. Both lead to fit problems that are costly to correct after production.

Our recommendation

Ask for the drawing and finish sample in writing before production starts, and confirm who will check the fixings on site. A short, clear approval step saves the most time and rework.

Summary

Security bar quality control covers measurement, drawings, material checks, welding, surface finishing and installation, and each stage is verified against the approved specification.
