Stainless Steel Drain and Floor Grate Replacement

t475-45

t475-45

A damaged floor drain is best replaced with a custom-made stainless steel floor grate sized to the existing opening and load requirements. Techno Kol Uzi manufactures these grates to measure in its Tel Aviv workshop after an on-site inspection and written specification. Installation is planned so the new grate sits flush with the floor and drains properly.

When a floor grate needs replacing

Floor grates wear out for several reasons: corrosion from wet conditions, cracked or bent bars, loose frames, or a grate that no longer fits the opening after floor works. Facility managers often notice rattling, water pooling around the drain, or sharp edges that create a safety hazard.

  • Visible rust or pitting on the bars
  • Deformed or missing sections
  • Gaps that let debris or small objects through
  • Grates that sit above or below the finished floor

If any of these signs are present, replacement is usually more reliable than repair.

Why stainless steel works well for drains

Stainless steel resists corrosion from water, cleaning chemicals and humid air, which makes it a sensible choice for areas that are washed regularly. It keeps a clean appearance and is straightforward to maintain with routine cleaning.

The exact grade and thickness should match the traffic and wash conditions of the space. Your engineer or our team can advise on the right choice for your specific site.

Measuring and specifying the grate

Accurate measurement is the most important step. We measure the existing opening, the depth of the drain channel and the level of the surrounding floor. Where the old grate is still in place, we also check how it was fixed and whether the frame is reusable.

The result is a written specification and drawing that you approve before production starts. This confirms dimensions, bar pattern, frame profile and finish, so there are no surprises on installation day.

Manufacturing in our workshop

Once approved, the grate is cut, formed and welded in our factory at 37 Rival Street, Tel Aviv. Frames and bars are finished so edges are smooth and comfortable to walk on, and the grate is checked against the drawing before it leaves the workshop.

Where a coating is needed for the surrounding metalwork, we can apply the appropriate finish as part of the same order.

Installation and levelling

Installation is the stage where a good grate can still fail if it is not set correctly. The frame must sit level with the finished floor, be properly supported, and allow water to reach the drain without pooling. We coordinate timing with your contractor so the surrounding floor and drainage connection are ready.

  • Remove and clean the old opening
  • Confirm levels and falls toward the drain
  • Fix the frame securely and check the fit

Ordering and next steps

To start, send photos of the existing drain and any dimensions you have. We then arrange an on-site measurement, prepare a drawing and specification, and wait for your approval before manufacturing. This process keeps the project clear for facility managers, contractors and building committees alike.

Once the grate is installed, a simple routine of removing debris and rinsing the surface will keep it performing well for years.

Frequently asked questions

Can you replace a grate without changing the whole drain?

In many cases yes. We measure the existing opening and frame first, and if the drain channel is sound, a new custom grate can be made to fit it.

Do you need exact measurements from me?

Approximate dimensions and photos are enough to begin. We take the precise measurements on site before any drawing is approved.

Is stainless steel suitable for wet areas?

Yes, stainless steel is well suited to wet and washed areas because it resists corrosion. The correct grade should be confirmed for your specific conditions.

Who installs the new grate?

We coordinate installation as part of the project, and we can work alongside your contractor to make sure levels and drainage connections are ready.

Common mistakes to avoid

The most common error is ordering a grate without checking the level and fall of the surrounding floor, which causes pooling. Measuring only the visible opening and skipping the drain depth also leads to poor fit.

Our recommendation

Before ordering, check the floor levels and drainage fall around the drain, and send photos of the existing frame. Approving a written drawing before production prevents most fit problems.

Summary

A custom stainless steel floor grate, measured on site and installed to the correct level, gives a durable and safe replacement for a damaged drain.
