Steel Silo Support Frames for Bulk Material Storage
t482-38

A steel silo support frame is a custom steel structure that carries the weight of a silo or hopper and transfers it safely to the foundation. It must be designed around the load, the silo dimensions and the site conditions, and then fabricated and finished to resist corrosion.
What a silo support frame does
A silo or hopper holds a large, heavy mass of material, and that weight has to go somewhere safe. The support frame, sometimes called the legs or the stand, collects the load from the silo base and carries it down to the concrete foundation in a controlled way.
A good frame keeps the silo level, stable against wind, and accessible for filling, discharge and inspection. It also leaves room for ladders, platforms and discharge equipment below the hopper.
Information we need before we design
To design a frame that fits your operation, we usually ask for a few key details. The more precise the information, the better the first drawing will be.
- Silo diameter and total height
- Type of material, such as grain, cement or granules, and its approximate density
- Hopper shape and discharge outlet size
- Foundation details and site wind exposure
- Access needs for ladders, platforms and maintenance
Design and drawing stage
Once we have your information, we prepare a drawing and a written specification showing leg layout, bracing, base plates and connection points. Loads and member sizes are checked with a qualified structural engineer, since exact values depend on your specific equipment and site.
You review the drawing and approve it before any steel is cut. This step catches measurement or layout issues early, when changes are simple.
Fabrication and finishing in our workshop
The frame is fabricated in our factory on Rival Street in Tel Aviv, where we cut, weld and assemble steel to the approved drawing. Silo frames are exposed to dust, moisture and weather, so finishing matters as much as strength.
We typically recommend hot-dip galvanizing for long-term corrosion protection, with powder coating where a specific color or added protection is wanted. Surfaces are prepared carefully so the finish bonds well.
Installation and anchoring
The frame is only as good as its connection to the ground. Base plates must sit level and be anchored to a foundation that has been designed for the loads. Bolts and welds should be checked against the drawing before the silo is lifted into place.
After installation, a visual check of alignment, bolt tightness and bracing is recommended, and any movement or cracking in the foundation should be reported straight away.
Maintenance over the years
A silo frame needs little attention, but a regular inspection keeps it safe. Look for rust at welds and base plates, loose bolts, cracked coatings and signs of settling in the foundation.
- Inspect coatings and touch up any damage promptly
- Check bolts and base connections periodically
- Keep the area around the base clear of debris and standing water
Frequently asked questions
Can a steel silo frame be made to our exact silo dimensions?
Yes, every frame is made to measure from your silo diameter, height and hopper layout. We confirm the measurements on site before fabrication begins.
Do you need a drawing from an engineer?
We prepare the drawing and specification, and loads are checked with a qualified structural engineer. Please let us know if your project already has an engineer involved.
Why is galvanizing recommended for silo frames?
Silos often stand outdoors and face dust, humidity and weather. Galvanizing gives strong, long-lasting protection against corrosion, which helps the frame stay sound over many years.
Can you install the frame as well as make it?
Yes, our process includes installation after fabrication. The frame is delivered and fitted on site, with base connections checked against the approved drawing.
Common mistakes to avoid
The most common error is designing the frame without accurate load and foundation information, which can lead to misalignment or overloading. Skipping corrosion protection for an outdoor silo is another costly mistake.
Our recommendation
Share your silo dimensions, material type and foundation details at the start, and ask for the drawing to be approved before fabrication. Choosing galvanizing from the beginning is usually the most economical choice for long-term use.
Summary
A steel silo support frame carries the load of a silo or hopper safely to its foundation. Accurate design, proper corrosion protection and careful installation keep it reliable for years.
