Frame-Mounted vs Wall-Mounted Security Bars: Which to Choose

t264-25

t264-25

Frame-mounted security bars are fixed to the window or balcony frame, while wall-mounted bars are anchored into the surrounding masonry. Frame-mounting suits many openings where the frame is strong and the wall is hard to reach, and wall-mounting is often preferred when the frame is weak or the bars must carry more load. The right choice depends on the material of the frame, the wall condition and the way the opening is built.

What Frame-Mounted Security Bars Mean

Frame-mounted security bars are attached directly to the window or balcony frame, usually at the sides, top and bottom. The bars sit close to the opening and follow its shape, which keeps the look clean and avoids chipping the surrounding plaster or tile.

This method is common in renovations, where the existing wall is finished and should stay untouched. It works best when the frame is solid steel or aluminum with enough thickness to hold the fixings securely.

What Wall-Mounted Security Bars Mean

Wall-mounted bars are anchored into the masonry around the opening, with brackets or sleeves set into the wall. Because the load goes into the structure rather than the frame, this approach suits older or lighter frames and openings that need a more rigid fixing.

It does require drilling into the wall, so it is usually planned during construction or when the finish can be repaired afterward.

Comparing the Two Methods

The main differences come down to the condition of the frame, the wall and the finish you want to keep.

  • Frame-mounted: tidy finish, minimal wall work, depends on frame strength.
  • Wall-mounted: stronger anchoring, more wall preparation, suits weaker frames.
  • Both: can be finished in hot-dip galvanizing or powder coating to match the building.

Measurement and Planning Steps

Every installation starts with an inquiry, ideally with photos of the opening and the surrounding area. We then measure on site, checking the frame profile, its thickness, the wall type and any obstacles such as shutters, handles or balcony edges.

From these measurements we prepare a drawing and a written specification showing the fixing method, bar spacing and finish. You review and approve it before any production begins, so the bars are made to fit the real opening.

Production and Finishing in Our Factory

Once approved, the bars are cut, welded and assembled at our factory at 37 Rival Street in Tel Aviv, following the drawing exactly. Iron and aluminum are both available, depending on the look and the environment.

Finishing options include hot-dip galvanizing for corrosion resistance and powder coating for colour. Coating is completed before delivery so the bars arrive ready to install.

Installation and Final Checks

On installation day, the bars are fixed using the method agreed in the specification. For frame-mounted bars we check the frame condition and fixing points; for wall-mounted bars we set the anchors and confirm the brackets are level and secure.

After fitting, we check that each bar is firm, that the opening is still usable for escape and ventilation, and that the finish is clean. Exact load and fixing values are confirmed with the engineer, in line with the relevant standards.

Frequently asked questions

Can frame-mounted security bars be fitted to any window frame?

Not always. The frame needs enough strength and thickness to hold the fixings securely. We check this during on-site measurement before recommending the method.

Is wall-mounting always better for security?

Wall-mounting often gives a more rigid fixing, but it is not automatically better. The right choice depends on the frame, the wall and the opening.

Will installation damage my walls or finish?

Frame-mounting usually causes minimal wall disturbance. Wall-mounting requires drilling, so the surrounding finish may need repair afterward.

Do I need to approve a drawing before production?

Yes. We prepare a drawing and written specification after measurement, and production starts only after you approve it.

Common mistakes to avoid

Choosing a fixing method without checking the frame strength and wall condition is the most common error. Ordering bars before on-site measurement can also lead to fit problems.

Our recommendation

Ask for an on-site measurement before deciding, and let the drawing confirm the fixing method for each opening. Matching the finish to the building keeps the result both secure and attractive.

Summary

Frame-mounted bars give a clean finish on solid frames, while wall-mounted bars offer stronger anchoring when the frame is weaker. Measurement and an approved drawing make the choice clear before production.
