Gate Quality Control: How Our Gates Are Inspected
t278-23

Gate quality control at Techno Kol Uzi runs through every stage of the job: on-site measurement, a written specification, checks during fabrication, finishing inspection and a final check after installation. Each step is recorded so the gate matches the approved drawing and works smoothly for years. Clients are involved in the approval step before production begins.
Step 1: On-Site Measurement
Every gate starts with a measurement taken at the property itself, not from a photo or a guess. We record the opening width and height, the wall thickness, the slope of the ground, the post positions and any obstacles such as steps, drainage or electrical boxes.
- Clear opening measured at top, middle and bottom
- Ground level and slope noted
- Hinge and post positions marked
Measuring in several places catches out-of-square openings early, so the gate is built for the real wall rather than an idealized one.
Step 2: Drawing and Written Specification
Once measured, we prepare a drawing and a written specification covering dimensions, profile sizes, material, opening direction, locks and finish. This document is the reference for every later check, so nothing is left to memory on the workshop floor.
Our team reviews the drawing for practical issues such as swing clearance over the ground and the position of the latch relative to the gate's leaning edge.
Step 3: Client Approval Before Production
Before any metal is cut, the drawing and specification are sent to the client for approval. Changes at this stage are simple and inexpensive to make, while changes after fabrication are not. We ask clients to check the dimensions, the design, the infill pattern and the finish color.
Once approved, the document is filed with the job, and production follows exactly what was signed off.
Step 4: Checks During Factory Production
Inside our workshop at 37 Rival Street in Tel Aviv, the gate is checked as it is built. Frames are assembled on a flat surface and measured diagonally to confirm they are square. Welds are inspected for full penetration and clean finish, and the leaf is checked for twist before it leaves the bench.
- Diagonal measurement of frames
- Visual and tactile weld inspection
- Hinge alignment test on a dry fit
Step 5: Finishing Inspection
Finishing is a critical quality point. Gates are hot-dip galvanized or powder coated, and each piece is inspected for coating thickness, uniform color, absence of runs or bare spots and proper curing. Surfaces are checked in good daylight to reveal defects that artificial light can hide.
Moving parts such as hinges and locks are tested after finishing to be sure the coating has not affected their operation.
Step 6: Installation and Final Check
On site, the gate is hung, aligned and adjusted until it swings freely with a consistent gap at the latch side. We check that posts are plumb, that the gate closes without rubbing, and that the latch engages reliably. For railings and guardrails, we verify the work against the general requirements of the Israeli railing standard SI 1142, with exact values confirmed by the engineer.
The client walks through the final result with us before we consider the job complete.
Frequently asked questions
Do you check the gate again after it is installed?
Yes. We adjust hinges, posts and the latch on site and confirm the gate swings and closes smoothly before the job is closed out.
Can I see the drawing before the gate is made?
Yes. Every gate is drawn and described in writing, and you approve the drawing before production starts.
How do you protect the gate from rust?
Gates are hot-dip galvanized or powder coated, and the finish is inspected for thickness, coverage and curing before the gate is delivered.
Who decides if the measurements are correct?
Measurements are taken on site by our team and then confirmed against the approved drawing, so the gate is built to the real opening.
Common mistakes to avoid
Ordering a gate from a photo alone or skipping the approval of the drawing often leads to a gate that does not fit the opening or swing freely. Always insist on an on-site measurement and a written specification.
Our recommendation
Measure the opening yourself at top, middle and bottom and note any slope or obstacles before you contact a fabricator, and check the drawing carefully before approving it.
Summary
Gate quality control covers measurement, drawing, approval, factory checks, finishing and installation, so every gate fits and works as specified.
