Order Custom Stainless Steel Handrails: Step by Step

t474-40

t474-40

To order custom stainless handrails, you send photos and basic dimensions, we measure on site, prepare a drawing and written specification, and you approve it before production starts. The rails are then fabricated in our Tel Aviv factory and installed on your staircase or balcony.

Step 1: Send an Inquiry with Photos

Start by sending us photos of the space where the handrail will go. Show the staircase or balcony from a few angles, including the wall, the edges and any existing railing you want to replace. A short description helps too: indoor or outdoor, the number of steps, and whether the rail is for a home, a building common area or a commercial space.

Photos let us spot likely issues early, such as uneven walls, tight corners or fixing points that need extra reinforcement. The more clearly the space is shown, the more accurate our first assessment will be.

Step 2: On-Site Measurement

After reviewing your inquiry, we arrange an on-site measurement. We record the exact lengths, heights, wall-to-rail distances, the angle of the stairs and the position of posts or anchor points. Stairs are rarely perfectly uniform, so we measure each section rather than relying on a single figure.

Bring the person who will make decisions on the project, whether that is the homeowner, the building committee or the contractor, so questions can be answered during the visit.

Step 3: Drawing and Written Specification

Based on the measurements, we prepare a drawing showing the handrail shape, supports, fixing method and finish. The written specification lists the stainless steel grade, tube or profile dimensions, the type of joints and the finishing, such as brushed or polished surface.

  • Rail profile and length of each section
  • Post spacing and fixing method
  • Finish and any wall or floor details

Please check the drawing carefully before approving it.

Step 4: Client Approval

We send the drawing and specification for your approval. Review the dimensions, the height, the position of the rail and the finish. If anything differs from what you had in mind, tell us before we proceed. Changes at this stage are simple to make, while changes after fabrication are costly and slow.

Once you approve in writing, we start production. Keep a copy of the approved drawing for your records.

Step 5: Factory Production and Finishing

Your handrail is cut, shaped, welded and polished in our workshop at 37 Rival Street, Tel Aviv. Stainless steel is worked with care to keep the surface clean and consistent across each section, so the joints match the drawing.

Where the design calls for it, we apply the chosen finish and check each piece against the specification before it leaves the factory.

Step 6: Installation

On installation day, we fix the supports and rail to the staircase or balcony as specified. Check that the rail is firm and sits at the height agreed in the drawing. For railing height, guard spacing and load requirements, we follow the Israeli railing standard SI 1142 in general terms, and exact values are confirmed with the engineer on your project.

After installation, we walk through the finished work with you so you can see every section before we close the job.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the process take from inquiry to installation?

Timing depends on the size of the job and our current workload, so we confirm the schedule once the drawing is approved. We will give you a clear timeline at that stage.

Do I need to be home for the measurement?

It is helpful to be present or have a representative on site, since they can answer questions about the space. Make sure the staircase or balcony is accessible.

Can I change the design after approving the drawing?

Changes are possible, but they are easiest before production begins. Tell us as soon as you spot something, and we will revise the drawing and specification.

Is the handrail suitable for outdoor use?

Stainless steel performs well outdoors, but the grade and finish should suit the exposure. We recommend the right specification for your location during the drawing stage.

Common mistakes to avoid

Approving the drawing without checking heights, dimensions and finish carefully leads to costly corrections later. Also avoid skipping the on-site measurement, since photos alone rarely capture the exact stair geometry.

Our recommendation

Measure and confirm the rail height and wall distances before you approve, and ask for the finish to be written into the specification. These two details prevent most problems on site.

Summary

Ordering custom stainless handrails is a clear six-step process: inquiry, on-site measurement, drawing, approval, factory production and installation. Careful review at the approval stage keeps the result accurate and on schedule.
