Site Survey Process for Window Security Bar Projects
t264-3

A site survey for window security bars is an on-site visit where our team measures each opening, checks the wall and frame condition, and records the mounting details before any production starts. The findings lead to a written specification and drawing that you approve before we manufacture the bars in our Tel Aviv factory. Following this order avoids mismatched bars and rework at installation.
Why a Site Survey Comes First
Every window is slightly different, even in buildings that look identical from the street. Openings can be out of square, sills can be uneven, and frames may have been replaced at different times. A site survey lets us see these conditions directly instead of relying on estimates from photos alone.
For property managers, the survey also creates a clear record. It shows the number of openings, their positions, and any constraints such as shutters, air conditioning units or fixed glazing that the bars must work around.
What We Measure On Site
During the visit, we take exact measurements of each opening, including width and height at more than one point, since walls and frames are rarely perfectly parallel. We also check the depth of the reveal and the material of the surrounding surface.
- Clear opening dimensions, measured in several places
- Wall material and condition at the fixing points
- Frame type, whether aluminum, PVC or steel
- Obstructions such as shutters, handles and pipes
Preparing for the Visit
A little preparation makes the survey faster and more accurate. Please make sure the team can reach every window, including balconies and stairwell openings, and that any tenant or building committee contact is available if access is needed.
Sending photos of each opening in advance helps us plan the visit. If there are existing bars or old fixings, note their locations, as we will check whether they can be reused or must be removed safely.
Drawing and Written Specification
After the survey, we prepare a drawing for each opening or group of similar openings, along with a written specification. The document describes the bar pattern, profile sizes, finish, and fixing method, so you can see exactly what will be produced.
Where safety standards apply, such as the Israeli railing standard SI 1142, we review the design against the relevant requirements. Exact technical values are confirmed with the engineer as part of the approval process.
Approval, Production and Finishing
Nothing goes into production until you approve the drawing and specification in writing. This step is where small changes, such as a different pattern or finish, are cheapest to make.
Once approved, the bars are manufactured in our factory at 37 Rival Street, Tel Aviv. Finishing options include hot-dip galvanizing and powder coating, chosen to suit the building's exposure and appearance.
Installation Day
On installation day, we fix the bars to the wall or frame using the method agreed in the specification. Because the survey already recorded the wall condition and obstructions, the crew arrives prepared and the work usually goes smoothly.
- Check that each bar matches its approved drawing
- Fix securely at the planned points
- Confirm operation of any openable sections
Frequently asked questions
How long does a site survey take?
The time depends on the number of openings and their access. A building with many similar windows can often be surveyed in a single visit, while a larger project may need more time.
Do I need to be home during the survey?
Not always, but someone with access to every opening should be available. If you cannot attend, arrange a contact who can let the team in and answer basic questions.
Can existing bars be reused?
Sometimes. During the survey we check the condition of the existing bars and fixings and advise whether they can be kept or should be replaced.
What happens after the survey?
We send a drawing and written specification for your approval. Production begins only after you confirm the design in writing.
Common mistakes to avoid
A common mistake is measuring openings once from one point, which misses out-of-square frames. Ordering before the survey and drawing approval often leads to bars that do not fit the actual opening.
Our recommendation
Ask for measurements at several points per opening and insist on a written drawing before production. Note any shutters or handles in advance so the design avoids them.
Summary
A proper site survey records real conditions, produces an approved drawing, and makes production and installation predictable.
