Custom Steel Stairs Order Process: From Inquiry to Installation
t390-24

Ordering custom steel stairs follows a clear sequence: you send an inquiry with photos, we measure on site, prepare a drawing and written specification, you approve it, and the stairs are fabricated, finished and installed. Each stage confirms the details before any steel is cut, which keeps the final result accurate and avoids rework.
Step 1: Sending your inquiry
Start by sending us photos of the space where the stairs will go, along with any sketches or plans you have. Tell us the floor levels if you know them, the type of staircase you want, and whether it is for a private home, a building committee, or a project run by an architect or contractor.
- Photos of the opening and surrounding walls
- Floor-to-floor height, if known
- Preferred style and finish
This first review helps us see what is possible before we visit.
Step 2: On-site measurement
A technician visits the site to measure the opening, the floor-to-floor height, the landing areas and any obstacles such as walls, beams or ceiling openings. Measurements are taken at the actual location, because the drawings are only as good as the numbers behind them.
If the walls or floors are still being built, we recommend agreeing on the final finish levels first, since they affect every step height.
Step 3: Drawing and written specification
Based on the measurements, we prepare a drawing showing the stair layout, dimensions, stringers, treads and landings, along with a written specification. The specification lists the materials, profiles, handrail or railing type, fixing method and finish.
Exact structural and safety values are checked with the responsible engineer, and we will tell you if any part of the design needs that check.
Step 4: Your approval
Please review the drawing and specification carefully before approving. Check the step count, the direction of rise, the handrail side, the finish colour and the installation details. Once you approve in writing, we treat the document as the basis for production.
Changes after approval can affect cutting and finishing, so it is worth raising questions at this stage.
Step 5: Factory production and finishing
After approval, the steel is cut, welded and assembled in our factory at 37 Rival Street, Tel Aviv, where the work has been done since 1945. Pieces are checked against the drawing before they leave the workshop.
- Cutting and welding to the approved dimensions
- Hot-dip galvanizing for corrosion protection where specified
- Powder coating in the chosen colour
Step 6: Installation
Our team delivers the stairs and installs them on site, fixing them to the structure as specified. We check alignment, level and handrail height before completing the work, and we walk through the finished stairs with you so you know how everything was installed.
Please keep the approved drawing for your records, since it documents the final design.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the whole process take?
The timeline depends on the complexity of the stairs, our current workload and how quickly approvals are given. We will give you an estimate once the drawing and specification are agreed.
Do I need to be present for the measurement?
It is helpful if you or a representative can be there to point out the exact location and any site conditions. If that is not possible, send us clear photos and dimensions in advance.
Can I change the design after approving the drawing?
Changes are possible but may affect production and timing. Please tell us as early as you can so we can assess the impact before cutting begins.
Who checks that the stairs are safe?
Our production follows the approved drawing and specification, and structural and safety values are checked with the responsible engineer. Please ask us which parts of your project require engineering confirmation.
Common mistakes to avoid
Ordering before the floor finishes are set, or approving a drawing without checking step count, handrail side and finish, can lead to costly changes. Take time to confirm each detail in writing before production starts.
Our recommendation
Settle the final floor levels and the handrail side before the measurement visit, and keep every change in writing. This single habit prevents most fitting problems later.
Summary
Custom steel stairs are ordered in six stages: inquiry, on-site measurement, drawing and specification, approval, factory production and finishing, then installation. Clear approval at the drawing stage is the key to a smooth result.
