Electric Gate Installation Timeline: Stages from Measurement to Handover

t292-49

t292-49

A typical electric gate installation moves through inquiry, on-site measurement, drawing and written specification, client approval, factory production, finishing, and installation with automation. The total duration depends mainly on approval speed, finishing type and the readiness of the site.

Stage 1: Inquiry and Site Survey

The process starts with a short inquiry. Send photos of the opening, the surrounding wall or fence, and a rough description of the gate you have in mind, whether it is a sliding gate for a narrow driveway or a swing gate for a wider entrance. This helps us understand the situation before anyone visits.

Next, a technician comes to the site to measure the opening, check the ground level, and look at the surface where the gate will be fixed. Noting obstacles such as slopes, drainage channels or existing cables at this point avoids surprises later.

Stage 2: Drawing and Written Specification

After measuring, we prepare a drawing that shows the gate dimensions, the frame profile, the infill pattern and the mounting method. A written specification accompanies it, listing materials, finishing, and the automation components planned.

  • Overall opening width and height
  • Gate type: sliding or swing
  • Finish: hot-dip galvanizing and powder coating
  • Automation and remote control arrangement

Reviewing this document carefully at this stage is the best way to prevent changes once production has begun.

Stage 3: Client Approval

The drawing and specification are sent to you for approval. Please check the dimensions, the design, and the finish colour, and raise any questions now. Once you confirm in writing, the order moves into production. Approval is often the stage that determines the overall pace, so responding promptly keeps the project moving.

If the gate must match a building committee's requirements or an architect's plan, share those documents at this stage as well.

Stage 4: Production in the Factory

Once approved, the gate is cut, welded and assembled in our workshop at Rival Street 37 in Tel Aviv. Working in the factory allows precise control over frame squareness, weld quality and the alignment of the rolling or hinging components. For sliding gates, the track and guide parts are prepared to the exact length of the opening.

Automation components are also matched to the gate weight and size during this stage, so the motor and controller are ready for installation.

Stage 5: Finishing

Finishing protects the steel for the long term. Most gates receive hot-dip galvanizing for corrosion resistance, followed by powder coating in the colour you selected. Finishing needs curing and handling time, and it is usually the stage that most affects the overall timeline, especially during busy periods.

Once finishing is complete, the parts are checked and packed for transport to the site.

Stage 6: Installation and Handover

On installation day, the posts or anchors are set, the gate is hung or the sliding track is fixed, and the automation is connected and tested. Safety sensors and the remote controls are programmed, and the gate is run through several full cycles to confirm smooth operation.

At handover we walk through the operation with you, explain the controls, and review basic care so the gate continues to perform well.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the whole gate installation timeline usually take?

The duration varies with the project, mainly depending on how quickly the drawing is approved and the finishing schedule. Your technician can give you a realistic estimate once the site survey is complete.

Can installation start before the finishing is done?

Usually no, because the gate needs its final coating before it is fixed to avoid damaging the finish. Site preparation such as foundations or anchor positions can be done in parallel.

What can slow down the schedule the most?

Delays most often come from slow client approval, changes to the design after production has started, or a site that is not ready when the installer arrives. Confirming the drawing carefully reduces these risks.

Do I need to be present during the measurement and installation?

It is helpful to be present for the measurement so you can point out preferences and obstacles. For installation, someone should be available to confirm access and review the controls at handover.

Common mistakes to avoid

The most common mistake is approving the drawing too quickly without checking dimensions and clearances. Another is preparing the site or building the wall before confirming the exact gate position with the measurement team.

Our recommendation

Before approving, check that the gate swing or slide path is clear of parked cars, steps and level changes, and make sure the power point for the motor is planned in advance. Raising these points early is the simplest way to keep your timeline on track.

Summary

An electric gate moves through survey, drawing, approval, factory production, finishing and installation, and the approval and finishing stages shape the overall timeline most. Planning each step in advance makes the process smoother.
