Stainless Steel Gate Fabrication: Steps and Quality Checks

t292-16

t292-16

Stainless steel gate fabrication is a controlled sequence: on-site measurement, a written drawing approved by the client, cutting and welding in the factory, finishing, and installation with testing. Quality checks at each stage catch dimensional, material and finishing issues before the gate reaches your property.

Step 1: On-Site Measurement and Inquiry

Every stainless steel gate starts with a clear inquiry. Send us photos of the opening and the surrounding wall, then we arrange an on-site visit to take exact measurements. We check the opening width and height, the slope of the driveway, the ground condition, and where the gate posts and motor will sit.

  • Opening width measured at top, middle and bottom
  • Ground slope and clearance for a sliding track or swing arc
  • Power point location for an electric operator

Measuring on site, rather than from a plan, avoids most problems later.

Step 2: Drawing and Written Specification

Based on the measurements, we prepare a drawing and a written specification. It lists the gate type (sliding or swing), frame profile, infill pattern, stainless steel grade, finish and the operator model. Nothing is produced until you approve the drawing in writing, so you know exactly what will be built.

Exact structural values are confirmed with the engineer for your specific gate.

Step 3: Material Check and Cutting

Before cutting, the stainless steel stock is checked against the specification. We verify the grade, the thickness and the surface finish, and reject any material with visible scratches, dents or inconsistent coating. Cutting follows the approved drawing, with each piece marked and measured against the drawing dimensions.

Step 4: Assembly and Welding

The frame is assembled on a flat surface so it stays square. Welds are made with care to avoid heat distortion, and the joints are then ground smooth. We check the diagonals of the frame to confirm it is square before the infill is added, because a gate that is out of square will bind on the track or hinges later.

  • Frame squareness checked by measuring diagonals
  • Weld seams inspected for penetration and cracks
  • Hinge and roller positions checked against the drawing

Step 5: Finishing and Final Inspection

Stainless steel is finished by brushing or polishing to match the agreed look, and welds are blended so they are not visible. Before leaving the factory, the gate is assembled in full, the moving parts are tested for smooth travel, and the surface is inspected for any marks. Any defect found at this point is corrected in the workshop, not on your driveway.

Step 6: Installation and Testing on Site

On installation day, the posts are set plumb and level, the track or hinges are aligned, and the electric operator is wired and programmed. We then test the gate through a full cycle, checking the safety reversing function, the limit settings and the latch. The gate is handed over only after the client has seen it run correctly.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose stainless steel for a parking gate?

Stainless steel resists rust well, which matters for gates exposed to salt air and rain. It needs less maintenance than painted steel and keeps a clean look over the years.

How long does the process take from inquiry to installation?

The timing depends on the gate size, the design and the current workload. We confirm the schedule with you after the drawing is approved.

Can I change the design after approving the drawing?

Changes are possible before production starts, and we will update the drawing and specification. Once cutting has begun, changes are harder to make, so we recommend finalizing details at the drawing stage.

What checks are made to make sure the gate works smoothly?

We check the frame for squareness, inspect the welds, and test the moving parts in the factory. After installation we run the electric operator through a full cycle, including the safety reversing function.

Common mistakes to avoid

The most common mistake is ordering from an unmeasured or estimated opening, which leads to a gate that does not fit or bind. Approving a drawing without checking the stainless steel grade and finish also causes disappointment later.

Our recommendation

Measure the opening on site before ordering, and ask for the stainless steel grade and finish to be written into the specification. Confirm the operator type and power point location at the same time.

Summary

Stainless steel gate fabrication follows measurement, drawing approval, careful production, finishing and tested installation. Quality checks at each step keep the final gate accurate, durable and smooth to operate.
