Steel Frame Installation Process: What to Expect On Site
t488-3

The steel frame installation process moves through five stages: on-site measurement, drawing and written specification, client approval, factory production with finishing, and installation at your property. Most of the work happens in the workshop, so on installation day the crew mainly fixes, aligns and checks the frame. Preparing the site and confirming details in advance keeps the day smooth.
Step 1: On-Site Measurement
The process starts with a visit to measure the opening or area where the steel frame will go. The fitter checks the dimensions, the wall or floor condition, the level of the surface and any obstacles such as pipes, cables or existing fixings.
Photos of the location sent beforehand help us understand the project, but they never replace measuring on site. Measurements taken on the spot are what the drawings are based on.
Step 2: Drawing and Written Specification
Based on the measurements, we prepare a drawing and a written specification that describe the frame, its profiles, connection points, fixing method and finish. You review these documents before anything goes into production.
- Overall dimensions and profile types
- Fixing points and anchoring method
- Finish, such as hot-dip galvanizing or powder coating
Step 3: Client Approval
Production begins only after you approve the drawing and specification in writing. Read the documents carefully and ask about anything unclear. Changes are much easier to make at this stage than after the steel has been cut and welded.
If the frame needs to fit with other trades, such as a contractor's wall or an architect's design, share their drawings now so the details can be coordinated.
Step 4: Factory Production and Finishing
The frame is cut, welded and assembled in our factory on Rival Street in Tel Aviv. Working in the workshop allows precise control over alignment and quality. After assembly, the steel goes through the agreed finish, such as hot-dip galvanizing for outdoor corrosion protection or powder coating for a clean appearance.
Finishing needs drying and curing time, so the schedule is planned around it.
Step 5: Installation Day on Site
On installation day the team brings the finished frame to your property and fixes it according to the approved drawing. The crew checks levels and alignment, secures the anchors and makes sure the frame operates or sits correctly before leaving.
- Clear access for the delivery route and the crew
- Electricity or water nearby if the work requires it
- Surrounding surfaces protected from dust and sparks
Preparing Your Property for the Day
A little preparation makes installation faster and reduces the risk of damage. Clear the area around the opening, remove movable furniture and items near the work zone, and tell neighbors or building staff if access through a shared area is needed.
Let us know about any restrictions in advance, such as building committee rules or parking limits, so the team can plan accordingly. The engineer checks the exact fixing and load requirements, so do not hesitate to ask about them.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the steel frame installation process take?
The on-site part is usually completed within a day for a standard frame, while measurement, drawing, approval and production run before that. The total timeline depends on the size and finish of the frame and the current workload.
Do I need to be home on installation day?
It is helpful to be present or to have someone available who can confirm the location and answer questions. It also lets you check the alignment and finish before the crew leaves.
Can I change the design after approving the drawing?
Changes are possible before production starts, but they may affect timing and cost. Once the steel is cut and welded, changes are much harder, so review the drawing carefully before approving it.
Is the steel frame protected against weather?
Frames for outdoor use can be hot-dip galvanized or powder coated for corrosion protection. The right finish depends on where the frame will be installed, and we will recommend one during the planning stage.
Common mistakes to avoid
A common mistake is approving the drawing without checking dimensions and fixing points, which can lead to costly corrections later. Another is leaving the site unprepared, which slows the crew and increases the risk of damage to nearby surfaces.
Our recommendation
Measure the opening yourself beforehand and mark any nearby obstacles, then compare those figures with the drawing before you approve it. Confirm the fixing method with the engineer for your specific wall or floor type.
Summary
The steel frame installation process combines careful on-site measurement, a clear approved drawing, precise factory production and a planned fitting day, so good preparation makes the final result reliable.
