Quality Control Checks During Door Production
t418-20

Quality control in door production means checking measurements, drawings, materials, welds, finishing and installation at defined stages, not only at delivery. At Techno Kol Uzi, every iron and aluminum door is verified against the approved specification before it leaves the factory and again on site.
Measurement and Specification Check
Every door starts with an on-site measurement taken at the opening itself, not from the architectural plan alone. Walls are not always plumb and floors are rarely level, so we record the opening width and height at several points, the depth of the frame, and the swing direction.
The measurements are then written into a specification that lists the profile type, the infill, the hinges, the lock and the finish. The client signs off on this document before any cutting begins, so the approved specification becomes the reference for every later check.
Drawing Review and Approval
Once the measurements are confirmed, the drawing is prepared and reviewed for clearances, threshold height and how the leaf will sit in the frame. Small errors caught on paper cost almost nothing to fix, while the same error discovered after welding is expensive.
- Check the drawing against the site measurements
- Confirm swing direction and handle position
- Approve the finish and colour in writing
Material and Profile Inspection
Before production, incoming steel and aluminum profiles are checked for correct section, thickness and surface condition. Scratches, dents or mismatched batches are set aside so they do not end up in a finished door.
Iron and aluminum behave differently when cut and welded, so the cutting tolerances and joining method are chosen for each material. Accessories such as hinges and locks are checked against the specification as well.
In-Factory Fabrication and Weld Checks
During fabrication, the frame and leaf are assembled on a flat table and checked for square. Diagonal measurements are compared to confirm that the corners are true, because a door that is out of square will bind or fail to close.
Welds are inspected for full penetration, clean bead and absence of cracks or porosity. Any joint that does not meet the standard is ground and re-welded before the piece moves on to finishing.
Finishing Inspection
Surface treatment is a key stage of quality control. Iron doors are hot-dip galvanized for corrosion protection and then powder coated, while aluminum doors are finished to the agreed colour and texture.
- Check coating thickness and uniformity
- Look for runs, orange peel, bare spots or chips
- Verify colour against the approved sample
Doors that fail the visual check are reworked rather than delivered.
Installation and Final Handover
On site, the door is set plumb and level, fixed to the structure and adjusted so the gap around the leaf is even. We then test the swing, the lock, the closer and the seals before the work is considered complete.
Railings and balustrades installed alongside the door are checked against the Israeli railing standard SI 1142 in general terms, and any exact dimensional requirement is confirmed with the engineer. The client receives a final walkthrough so that the door is handed over operating correctly.
Frequently asked questions
Do you check the door on site before production starts?
Yes. Every door begins with an on-site measurement of the opening, and the specification is approved by the client before cutting. This prevents most fit problems later.
How do you check that an iron door will resist corrosion?
Iron doors are hot-dip galvanized and then powder coated. We inspect the coating for thickness, uniformity and damage before the door is delivered.
What happens if a weld or finish does not meet the standard?
The piece is reworked before it moves forward. Welds are ground and re-welded, and coating defects are corrected, so faulty parts are not shipped.
Will my door be tested after installation?
Yes. We test the swing, lock, closer and seals on site and walk the client through the door before handover.
Common mistakes to avoid
Approving a door without checking the site measurements and the written specification is the most common error. Changing dimensions or finish after production has started often leads to rework and delay.
Our recommendation
Ask for the written specification and the drawing to be signed before production begins, and check the finish sample against the actual colour on the day of delivery. Clear approvals at each stage protect both the quality and the timeline.
Summary
Quality control runs through measurement, drawing, material checks, fabrication, finishing and installation, so each door matches the approved specification. Techno Kol Uzi verifies every stage before the door reaches the client.
