Sliding Gate Installation Steps: From Measurement to Final Fit
t278-34

A sliding gate is installed in a clear sequence: on-site measurement, a written drawing and specification, client approval, factory production with protective finishing, and then on-site installation of the track, posts, and gate leaf. Following this order prevents fitting errors and keeps the gate running smoothly for years.
Step 1: Inquiry and Site Photos
The process starts with an inquiry. Send clear photos of the opening, the surrounding wall or fence, and the ground in front of and behind the gate. Note whether the ground slopes, where the power outlet is, and which direction the gate should open or slide.
Photos help us understand the site before we visit, so the first measurement visit is more productive and you receive a relevant proposal sooner.
Step 2: On-Site Measurement
A technician visits the property to measure the opening width, the height available above and below the track line, and the level of the ground. We check whether the surface is firm enough for the foundation and whether any obstacles such as pipes, cables, or drainage channels lie in the path of the gate.
- Clear opening width at ground level
- Height of the gate leaf and clearance above the ground
- Ground slope and surface condition
- Position of posts, power, and access for the motor
Step 3: Drawing and Written Specification
After measuring, we prepare a drawing and a written specification. The drawing shows the gate leaf, track length, post positions, and the space the gate needs to slide open. The specification lists materials, profiles, infill style, finish, and any automation.
Review both documents carefully. Ask questions now, because changes are easier to make on paper than after production has started.
Step 4: Client Approval
Once you approve the drawing and specification, the order moves to production. Approval should be written so that both sides share the same understanding of dimensions, design, and finish. If anything differs from what you expected, mention it before we begin cutting material.
Where the gate is part of a building committee or contractor project, we confirm the approved version with all responsible parties.
Step 5: Factory Production and Finishing
The gate is built to measure in our factory at 37 Rival Street, Tel Aviv. Steel sections are cut, welded, and checked against the drawing. The gate leaf is then protected with hot-dip galvanizing and powder coating, which shield the steel from moisture and weather.
Finishing is done after welding and assembly, so the protective layer covers the whole gate and stays intact during transport.
Step 6: On-Site Installation
Installation begins with setting the posts and the track, checking that the track is level and aligned with the opening. The gate leaf is then hung on its rollers and tested for smooth travel in both directions. If a motor is included, it is mounted and wired at this stage.
Exact structural values such as post depth and foundation size are checked with the engineer for each site, and the Israeli railing standard SI 1142 is considered where it applies.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a sliding gate installation take on site?
The on-site fitting time depends on the site, the gate size, and whether automation is included. Your installer will confirm the schedule once the gate is ready for fitting.
Do I need to be present during measurement?
It helps to be there so you can point out the desired gate direction, the power outlet, and any ground issues. Clear access to the opening also makes the visit faster.
Can a sliding gate be installed on a sloped driveway?
Yes, but the track must be aligned carefully and the ground condition checked. The engineer will review the slope during measurement and recommend the right approach.
Why is galvanizing important for a sliding gate?
Galvanizing protects the steel from rust, especially in damp or coastal conditions. Combined with powder coating, it helps the gate keep its appearance and smooth operation over time.
Common mistakes to avoid
Many gate problems come from skipping the measurement step or approving a drawing without checking the ground and clearance. Taking time at these early stages prevents costly adjustments on site.
Our recommendation
Before approving the drawing, mark the gate's full travel path on the ground and confirm there are no obstacles, cables, or drainage channels in the way. Keep a few centimeters of clearance on both sides for smooth operation.
Summary
A sliding gate is installed in six clear steps: inquiry, on-site measurement, drawing, approval, factory production with finishing, and final on-site fitting. Each step builds on the last to deliver a gate that fits and runs well.
