Steel Staircase Design Approval: How It Works
t390-28

Steel staircase design approval means you review and sign off on a written specification and drawings before any metal is cut or welded. Techno Kol Uzi measures on site, prepares the drawings, and waits for your written approval before production starts. This keeps dimensions, materials and finishes agreed in advance.
Starting with an inquiry and site photos
The process begins when you contact us with photos of the staircase area, the floor plan if you have one, and a rough idea of what you want. Photos of both ends of the stair, the landing, and any walls or ceilings that will be affected help us understand the space before we arrive.
- Photos of the top and bottom landings
- Any existing drawings or architect plans
- Preferred style, handrail type and finish
Based on this information we confirm whether a site visit is needed and what to prepare.
On-site measurement
A technician visits the building to measure the opening, the rise and run, the floor levels at top and bottom, and the wall conditions. Measuring on site rather than from memory prevents most fitting problems later. Where floors are not yet finished, we note the finish thickness so the stair still lands at the correct height.
Please keep the area clear and let us know about any electrical outlets, pipes or structural elements near the stair path.
Drawing and written specification
After measuring, we prepare a drawing showing the stair geometry, stringers, treads, landings, supports and handrail layout. A written specification accompanies it and lists the steel profiles, connection method, tread material, handrail details and the chosen finish, such as hot-dip galvanizing or powder coating.
Exact structural values are checked with the responsible engineer where required, and we will tell you when that step applies to your project.
Your review and written approval
This is the stage where you check the drawing carefully. Look at step height, the handrail position, the direction the stair turns, and how it meets the floor and wall. Ask questions and request changes before anything is produced.
- Confirm dimensions against your own plans
- Check the finish and colour
- Sign or send written approval of the final drawing
Production begins only after your written approval, so every later change costs time and money.
Factory production and finishing
Once approved, the stair is manufactured in our workshop at 37 Rival Street, Tel Aviv, where the steel is cut, welded and assembled to the drawing. Finishing follows, typically hot-dip galvanizing for outdoor or humid areas or powder coating for a clean indoor look.
Components are checked against the approved drawing before they leave the factory, which reduces surprises at installation.
Installation and final check
Our team installs the staircase on site, fixing the stringers and landings to the structure and fitting the treads and handrails. We check level, alignment and fixing points during installation and confirm the stair matches the approved drawing. Any small site adjustments are discussed with you before they are made.
Once installed, we walk the stair with you so you know how it works and what to check over time.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to approve the drawing before production starts?
Yes. We begin manufacturing only after you approve the drawing and specification in writing. This protects you from errors and keeps the project on schedule.
Can I change the design after approving the drawing?
Changes are possible, but they require a revised drawing and your new approval. Changes made after production has started may affect timing and cost.
Do I need to be home during the site measurement?
It helps to be present or to have someone who can give access and answer questions about the building. Please share any known issues with floors, walls or utilities in advance.
Who checks that the staircase is safe and compliant?
Handrail and railing requirements follow the Israeli standard SI 1142, and exact values are checked with the engineer where needed. We will advise you which checks apply to your specific staircase.
Common mistakes to avoid
The most common mistake is approving a drawing without checking the dimensions against the real site, which leads to fitting problems. Another is requesting changes after production has begun, which causes delays.
Our recommendation
Compare the drawing to your own floor levels, door clearances and ceiling height before signing, and write down any change requests. A short, clear approval note saves the most time.
Summary
Steel staircase design approval means measuring on site, reviewing a drawing and specification, and giving written sign-off before production. Approving carefully at this stage keeps the installation smooth.
